The 2020 MOF Checkers Tournament, is an upcoming checkers tournament sanctioned by the MOF. This is the second time the tournament will be held.

Qualifications

When the number of participants was determined by region, a differentiated qualification system was put in place.

For the North American contestant, a qualifying tournament will be set up by the MOF. The nations with the best rank will have a better place in the pots. For the others parts of the world, the highest ranking nations will be able to participate. In order to increase the rank of the contestants, the 2020 Occitanian Checkers League is organized before the tournament to coordinate numerous friendly matches.

Asia and Pacific regions

The nation with the highest rank will qualify for the tournament.

Europe

The three European teams with the three best ranks will be qualified.

North America

For the North American contestant, a qualifying tournament will be set up by the MOF. Five teams will be qualified.

Rest of the world

The nation with the highest rank will qualify for the tournament. If no micronation is candidate to participate in these regions, the place will return to Europe.

Venues

The Nova-Occitanian Olympic Committee has selected four venues to host the event. They were built in the summer 2019, before the Occitanian bid, in order to host a national league. The four venues are operated by three territories of Nova-Occitania.

Rules

The ranking of teams in the group stage was determined as follows:

  1. Points obtained in all group matches (three points for a win, none for a defeat);
  2. Pieces left (PL) on the board after the game;
  3. Kings that were captured (KC) at the end of the game;
  4. Total pieces captured (TC) at the end of the game;
  5. Drawing of lots.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony will be produced and broadcast on TV OC. In order to comply with Occitanian legislation on national languages, it will broadcast in French and is subtitled in English. The ceremony will consists of a video on the history of Nova-Occitania as well as the announcement of the participating nations. The music that will be used during the ceremony will be that exclusively of French artists like Josephine Baker, Anggun, DJ Snake or the Daft Punk.
