Proposed Flag of Melite by Snagovaenu.

The Melitian Flag Referendum of 2021 was a referendum in the Democratic Christian Republic of Melite deciding the future of the current Flag of Melite, whether it would be replaced by another proposed flag (designed by Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu) or retaining the then-current National Flag of Melite. This referendum would also ask a second question to the electorate, regarding the Melitian District of Comino, as a decision for the commissioning of a Flag for the Region was announced.

After, it asked whether they would prefer the Government Seal as Symbol of Comino, or the newly commissioned flag, created by Rafe Burfield, also a citizen of Melite. As there were two shades of red proposed in the Comino Flag, the electorate was given a choice between a light or dark shade of red.

Flag adopted after referendum

Both a new national flag and a new flag for Comino were successfully adopted. The National Flag was heavily approved with three quarters of the electorate choosing "Change current flag to proposed flag". The darker shaded flag of Comino was the majority chosen with 62.5% of the vote. An interesting connotation is that only one abstention took place, in the Comino flag Section of the ballot.
