The 2021 Paloman benzene was a gas leak accident that occurred on September 1, 2021, in nearby Flat Rock, Michigan, which went on to affect the local areas surrounding the city including Metropolitan Paloma. The gas benzene was traced in local sewer systems in the area which lead to many reports of "mysterious" odors by both Palomans and Americans living in the area. The gas leak has been largely associated with the Ford Motor Company plant in Flat Rock. The accident is the worst man-made disaster in Paloman history.
Background
On September 1, 2021 local residents of the American city, Flat Rock, Michigan placed complainants about smelling a "very sweet" gasoline odor in the area. Hazmat teams were called in to investigate and discovered traces of benzene gas inside the local sanitary system. On Friday 3rd the American Ford Motor Company claimed responsibitly stating the gas leak was most likely due to a spill at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Concern began in Paloma on September 5 as reports were made in Metropolitan Paloma that a burned odor could be smelt outside in the Lords area of Pajaro, which is currently in the legislative stages of becoming a National Park and is west of the location of the accident. In other cases some claimed mysterious smells could even be smelled in Paloma City, which is around a 16 kilomiter (10 mile) distance from the origin of the accident. A state of emergency has been declared by the Paloman government. Multiple agencies were to investigate this on the Paloman side by the government which includes the MPA and the Paloman National Police Corps.
