The election for the representatives at the Presidium of the Balkan League of Micronations was held between 16 February and 8 March 2023 in three distinct phases, determining the seats at the newly-formed Presidium. The election was called on 16 February 2023 by Daniil Hrisanov, one of the founders of the League and member of the original Presidium. This was the first election in the organisation's history.

Background

Originally, the Presidium consisted of four members, the heads of state of the founding members of the League: Strahinja N. from Anslavia, Quintus De Vitaliis from Græcia, Valuk II from Pochehova, and Daniil Hrisanov from Teweria. Following a collective decision, it was deemed necessary to allow more Balkan ethnic groups be represented at the Presidium, therefore the Assembly needed to elect them.

Timeline

The election was split into three phases:

  • 16 to 22/2: Election for the Representative of the Slavs at the Presidium
  • 23 to 27/2: Election for the Representative of the Hellenes at the Presidium
  • 8/3: Election for the Representative of the Romanians at the Presidium

The results were announced collectively on 8 March 2023.

Given the fact that Ștefan Marius was the only eligible Romanian representative, he was automatically awarded the seat at the Presidium. His possible competitor could have been Bogdan Ionescu, President of Libernesia, but due to his long absence and Libernesia's inactivity within the League, it was decided by the former Presidium to not pursue a competition between the two individuals.

Aftermath

Following the election, the Presidium consisted of: 1 representative for the South Slavs, 1 representative for the Hellenes, and 1 representative for the Romanians. No other Balkan ethnic group would be represented at the time, although Ștefan Marius is eligible to represent the Romani people.

Reactions

Following the election of the Hellenic representative at the Presidium, the winning candidate, Quintus De Vitaliis, thanked the people who voted for him and congratulated his competitor, Aggelos of Imvrassia, for the "tough race".
