Abayat Ibtiyaz (born 1 October 2006) is a Vishwamitran politician who is a member of the 13th and 15th Lok Sabha and a former union minister. He is also a cousin of prime minister Farhaz Hazarika.
Personal life
Abayat Ibtiyaz was born on 1 October 2006 in Jorhat district of the Indian state of Assam as the only child of his parents. He is a maternal cousin of prime minister Farhaz Hazarika and his twin brother Fardeen Hazarika.
Micronational career
Ibtiyaz joined micronationalism at the invitation of his cousin Farhaz Hazarika in January 2021. In March 2021, he contested the bye-election to the Rashtra Niwas constituency of the Lok Sabha as a candidate of the ruling National People's Congress in order to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of then union home minister Farhaz Hazarika who was elected to the house from two constituencies and was constitutionally required to retain only one seat. With the opposition Royalist Party backing out of the election, he was unopposed elected to the 13th Lok Sabha and remained as its member till the dissolution of the parliament in October 2021.
In a reshuffle-cum-expansion of the union council of ministers headed by prime minister Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu on 18 June 2021, he was inducted in the rank of a minister of state. He was assigned the portfolios of Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Public Administration. On 6 August 2021, he was given the additional charge of the Prime Minister's Office and Ministry of Cabinet Affairs.
He was re-inducted to the union council of ministers when his cousin Farhaz Hazarika became prime minister on 11 September 2021. He was appointed as a Minister of State with independent charge in the Prime Minister's Office and as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Religious and Minority Affairs.
During the general election to the 14th Lok Sabha held in November 2021, he was nominated as a party's candidate from the Dhirenpara constituency in Madhya Prant where he was defected by Su Yi-An, the candidate of the Green Socialist Party and thus became the sole sitting minister to lose the election.
He was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from the National List constituency of Madhya Prant unopposed and has since then became a member of the Lok Sabha.
