His Royal Highness Prince Abhirup, Crown Prince of Basistha, also His Serene Highness Prince Abhirup of Beltola is the Crown Prince and Uparajpramukh of Basistha and a member of the House of Patranabish. He is the younger brother of Princess Asmi, the Senior Princess of Beltola and a first cousin of Tanishkaa Patranabish, the Rajpramukh of Beltola and Anoushkaa Patranabish, the Rajpramukh of Basistha.

Apart from his royal activities, he has been a member of several union governments and served on many important ministerial positions.

Career

Political career

Prince Abhirup began his political career after being elected to the Lok Sabha in 2016 as a Secular Party MP and being appointed as a minister of state in the third cabinet of Varuna Sriraya on 11 April 2016. He was appointed as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the President's Office being assigned to then president Tanishkaa Patranabish. He resigned from the union cabinet on 9 July 2016 to take over as the Chief Minister of Beltola on 10 July 2016. He served as the state's chief minister until the re-organization of the states on 18 September 2016.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha in December 2016 and re-appointed as a minister of state. He was appointed as the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Welfare on 30 December 2016 in the fourth cabinet of Varuna Sriraya and served in that capacity until the dissolution of the cabinet on 12 April 2017. He was re-elected to the parliament in 2017 and 2018.

After not being a part of several union cabinets, he was appointed to the executive cabinet of president Varuna Sriraya on 12 October 2018 as the Minister of State for Home Affairs. He was re-appointed as a minister in the Fourth Tanishkaa Patranabish ministry on 7 January 2019 retaining the portfolios of home affairs and got the additional charge of the Minister of State for Internal Security.

He was re-appointed as the junior minister in the home ministry on 17 March 2019 in the Fifth Tanishkaa Patranabish ministry after being re-elected to the parliament in the general election. In a cabinet reshuffle on 3 June 2019, he was appointed as the Minister of State for National Defence and served in that capacity till 2 September 2019. He also held the charge of the Minister of State for Security from 16 July 2019 till 2 September 2019. He stepped down from the union cabinet on 2 September 2019.

He was re-inducted as a minister on 29 September 2019 and assigned the charge of the Minister of State for National Defence and Strategic Planning and Culture which he held till 11 October 2019. He was designated as a Minister of State without portfolio on 11 October 2019 following his indisposition and re-joined the cabinet on 23 October 2019. He was re-appointed as the Minister of State for Home Affairs on 23 October 2019. In a cabinet reshuffle on 16 November 2019, he was appointed as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Prime Minister's Office and held the responsibility till 9 December 2020 when he was appointed as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development. He served in that capacity till the dissolution of the cabinet on 3 March 2020.

He was re-elected to the parliament in the 2020 general election and appointed as the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Appointments and Administrative Reforms on 22 March 2020 and served till 30 April 2020. In the Seventh Tanishkaa Patranabish ministry formed on 10 May 2020, he was appointed as the Minister of State for National Defence, Home Affairs and Minister of State attached to the Senior Minister and served in those capacities till 7 June 2020.

He briefly served as the Minister of State for National Development, Information and Broadcasting and Minister of State assigned with the Rashtradhyaksh between 9 June and 17 June 2020 under prime minister Princess Anoushkaa.

Heir to the throne

Upon Vishwamitra's transition to a monarchy in June 2020, he was designated as a prince of Beltola and a member of the House of Patranabish. He was styled as His Serene Highness being a first cousin of the Rajpramukh of Beltola. Following the ascension to throne of Basistha by Anoushkaa Patranabish on 8 March 2022, he became eligible to be a prince of Basistha as the House of Patranabish reigned over both states. Finally on 25 December 2022, he was appointed as the Crown Prince of Basistha and the Deputy Rajpramukh of Basistha by the Rajpramukh of Basistha.

Ribbon bars of the orders and decorations that are worn regularly by the Crown Prince of Basistha are noted in accordance with customary Vishwamitran conventions applicable to the occasion, the location and to the form of dress worn. The ribbon bars are worn according to the protocol and the precedence of the wear as issued by the Chancellery of the orders. It is to note that the ribbons of the foreign honours are worn below the national and state honours of Vishwamitra.
