Admiral (Hindi: एडमिरल), abbreviated as ADM is the highest rank currently achievable by serving officers of the Royal Vishwamitran Navy, the naval warfare forces of the Vishwamitran Armed Forces and the second highest rank in the entire paygrade structure which was officially created following the establishment of the armed forces in 2018. A four-star rank with NATO code OF-9, it is equivalent to a General in the Royal Vishwamitran Army or an Air Chief Marshal in the Royal Vishwamitran Air Force and ranks below a Admiral of the Fleet and above a Vice Admiral. An admiral's insignia consists of a crossed sword and baton over four chakras topped by the Sovereign's crown. In addition to this, the double-breasted reefer jacket has four golden sleeve stripes consisting of a broad band with three narrower bands.
The second highest rank of Admiral was created on 13 May 2018 by President Anoushkaa Patranabish on the eve of the constitutional coup of 14 May 2018 and bestowed the rank upon Vice President Sarala Baishya in recognition of her extraordinary contributions and services to the nation and its military warfare. She remained as the only admiral in the navy until the appointment of Tanishkaa Patranabish to the rank in April 2021. The most recent appointment was that of Sander Koff on 24 August 2021, who currently serves as the Chief of the Navy Staff.
The professional head of the Royal Vishwamitran Navy, the Chief of the Navy Staff shall be the only admiral with active service in the nation. Prior to the disestablishment of the position of the Chief of the Defence Staff, who served as the professional head of the Vishwamitran Armed Forces, the holder of the position if they belong from the naval service branch served as the only admiral with active service. The rank of admiral in the Royal Vishwamitran Navy is the highest conferrable paygrade rank to which honorary appointments are made.
