The Anarcho-Communalist Republic of Kaskadjas (Kaskadjan creole: Anarkhija-Ikoumenij Dimokratija Kaskadjas), more commonly known as Kaskadjas, is a micronation in the Pacific Northwest of the United States of America... located in and around the public parks of the city of Seattle. It is divided into several semi-permeable provinces, with the de facto capital being located in the province of Lokograd in the northern half of the country. Kaskadjas was founded as an experimental anti-state, fulfilling the parameters of the Montevideo Convention defining statehood while rejecting the state apparatus common to most nations and substituting a variety of collectives and interlocking localized systems.

Etymology

Kaskadjas is a Balkanized respelling of "Cascadia," the name given to the bioregionalist movement and hypothetical secession of the Pacific Northwest from the United States. Though Kaskadjas does not have secessionist aims, its anarchist principles and cultural ties to the PNW made the name an appropriate homage. The orthography reflects its founders' affinity for the cultures of the Balkans and their values of hospitality and social kinship.

History

Kaskadjas was founded on October 7, 2021.

Politics and government

Kaskadjas' government runs on anarchist and collectivist/communalist principles. Each province is autonomous and able to secede from the nation at any time. Affairs of the nation are resolved at the provincial level through community councils practicing consensus democracy. When decisions must be made requiring the consensus of the entire Republic, community councils coalesce into a national council or caucus for the given topic at hand.

Foreign relations

Kaskadjas maintains cordial diplomatic relations with a variety of micronations and larger nations locally and around the world, including the United States. The Kaskadjan people are most invested in pursuing diplomatic alliances with other anti-capitalist nations, though the Republic has crafted a system for various partnerships with capitalist and socialist nations concerned with fighting authoritarianism and bigotry while promoting human rights. Kaskadjas is an open-border nation and encourages multiple citizenships for its citizens. Though not strictly a religious nation, Kaskadja's approach to experimental anarchy seeks to bridge spiritual and secular paradigms, and the Kaskadjan government seeks to learn from intentional communities both religious and secular who practice mutual aid or communalist care.

Economy

Economically, Kaskadjas runs on a mixed system. There are local and national networks for distributing resources such as housing, healthcare, water, food, etc. In addition, provinces are free to mint their own currencies, use the Kaskadjan drakhma, or practice gift and barter economies for non-essential goods and services. Mutual aid unions for various goods and service providers exist at the provincial and national levels. Community councils set legislation for wages in currency-based labor exchange though this is seldom needed as the essential services and resources are collectively owned and operated by their users. As an experimental anti-state, Kaskadjas seeks to allow for a variety of tools to be used for an anarchist, anti-capitalist communitarian lifestyle. Due to the capitalist framework of the United States that Kaskadjas is embedded in, Kaskadjan citizens still pay diplomatic fees (ie, taxes) to the United States if they are also United States citizens.
