He has been a bright and extraordinary student from his childhood and eventually received the 8th state rank in the 2018 Assam High School leaving examination. Micronational career

Gubernatorial tenures

Ankurjyoti joined Vishwamitra as a citizen in February 2019 upon the introduction to the concept micronationalism by his friend Dhrubajyoti Roy and eventually accepted the offer to hold offices in the nation. On 4 March 2019, the special administrative territory of Dadara and Kamrup was created through an act of the government and he was eventually appointed as the first Administrator of the territory and he remained in office until 15 June 2019. On 15 June 2019 statehood was granted to Dadara and Kamrup and it came to be known as "Kamrup Pradesh" and the office of the administrator was replaced by that of the governor. He was subsequently appointed as the Governor of Uttar Guwahati on 15 June 2019 succeeding Sanghita Roy who was expelled as the governor. He remained as the governor of Uttar Guwahati until being transferred as the Governor of Beltola on 20 July 2019. During this period, he also briefly discharged the duties of the administrator of Basistha following the resignation of Jemina Hazarika, the lieutenant governor of Basistha. In order to pursue a career in active politics, he tendered his resignation as Governor of Beltola on 16 August 2019.

Ministerial career

Soon after his resignation as the Governor of Beltola on 16 August 2019, he was inducted in the union council of ministers as the Minister of Social Policies and Human Resource Development under prime minister Tanishkaa Patranabish. In a major reshuffle of the union cabinet on 2 September 2019, he was named as the Deputy Prime Minister in order to fill in the vacancy created by the resignation of Abhiraj Kar and was also appointed as the Minister of National Development and Communications and Technology. On 13 September, he was named as the new Home Minister succeeding Arnab Sil who was named as the new Minister of National Defence and Strategic Planning.

On 29 September, he was named as a Senior Minister alongside Arnab Sil and ceased to be a deputy prime minister. Apart from being appointed as a senior minister, he was also appointed as the Minister of External Affairs. However, his tenure as the foreign minister and a member of the union cabinet was to be cut short on 8 October 2019, when he was named as the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, a position he held till 3 March 2020.

Following the end of his tenure as the deputy chairman of the planning commission, he was appointed as a member of the interim cabinet led by prime minister Anoushkaa Patranabish on 3 March 2020 as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs. However, in a minor reshuffle of the cabinet, he was removed as the deputy prime minister but retained his ministerial portfolio.

After the election victory of Tanishkaa Patranabish and following her subsequent formation of government, Ankurjyoti was named as the Minister of Commonwealth Affairs and Law and Justice. He was named as the Minister of Defence in a cabinet reshuffle on 10 April 2020. He also became a member of the National Advisory Council formed on 12 April 2020 under the chairpersonship of Tanishkaa Patranabish and Sarala Baishya. He was not appointed to the union cabinet of President Tanishkaa Patranabish which was formed on 13 May 2020. On 21 May, he was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Council of State with the same rank and status of a chief cabinet minister.

On 8 June, Vishwamitra became a federal monarchy and Princess Anoushkaa was appointed as the prime minister. Thakuria was not inducted initially to the union council of ministers which was formed on 8 June. He was appointed to the cabinet on 17 June 2020 as a Senior Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He was also appointed as a privy councilor on 1 July 2020 and continued to serve as a councilor until 26 February 2021 after being re-nominated on 14 August 2020.

In a reshuffle of the union cabinet on 16 September 2020, Thakuria was named as the new Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs succeeding Nishwan Baidantic who replaced him the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He continued to remain as a member of the cabinet until the dissolution of the ministry on 28 January 2021.

Thakuria has been politically inactive since his departure from the union council of ministers.
