The Armed Forces of Athor, sometimes called the Athori Armed Forces or His Grace's Armed Forces, are the military forces of the Islamic Emirate of Athor and are responsible for national defence. The armed forces consists of four branches: the Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy. The Monarch of Athor serves as Commander-in-Chief and can help form defence policy with the Ministry of Defence. They also promote the nations's wider interests, support international peacekeeping efforts and can provide aid to other micronations.

Because the monarch serves as Commander-in-Chief, members of the armed forces swear allegiance to them. However, the Prime Minister of Athor alongside the Secretary State for Defence can run the armed forces on behalf of the monarch and with the monarch's confidence.

History

The armed forces where initially established on 21 December 2022 as just three branches - the Athori Army, Athori Air Force and Athori Navy. Then on 29 December 2022 the Athori Marines where established and, alongside the navy and air force, where granted the title of "royal".

Command Structure

Sheikh Colin I, Monarch of Athor is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces with officers and personnel swearing allegiance to him. The Ministry of Defence is the government department charged with formulating and executing defence policy.

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) is the senior-most officer of the armed forces and is an appointment that can be held by an Admiral, Air Chief Marshal or General. The CDS is the most senior principle military advisor to the Secretary State for Defence. As well as this all four services have their own chiefs of staff that are members of the chiefs of staff committee and that are responsible for their own branches. The Chief of the Army Staff for the Army, Chief of the Air Staff for the Air Force, Chief of the Naval Staff for the Navy and the Chief of the Marine Staff for the Marines.

Personnel

Each branch of the armed forces are made up of regular and reserve troops. As well as this, applicants can decide to join as an enlistee or an officer. Officers are different from enlistees as they are given command positions within the armed forces and are granted a commission from the Monarch upon completing their initial training. Enlistees make up the bulk of the armed forces and fill most roles.

Branches

Army

The Athori Army is made up of the Regular Army and the Army Reserve and is the primary land warfare force if the armed forces. The army has a single command structure based in Cayfield and known as "Army Headquarters".

The army is made up of a number of battalions and regiments, each with their own role in helping the army carry out its functions.

Air Force

The Royal Athori Air Force is the primary air defence force of the armed forces. It is sometimes known as the RAAF and is overseen by Air Force Headquarters. The air force is broken down into a number of commands, groups, wings and squadrons that all work together to make up the air force and secure Athori airspace.

Navy

The Royal Athori Navy is the primary sea defence force of the armed forces. While being commanded by the Chief of the Naval Staff, the Lord High Admiral serves as the ceremonial head of the navy as well as a great officer of state. The navy's primary role is defending and securing coastal borders of the nation and they work closely with the Marines to do this.

Marines

The Royal Athori Marines serve as amphibious infantry troops. They are designed to be a smaller and more elite branch of the armed forces compared to the other branches, and recruits have to pass a Commando Course to earn the title of "Marine" and "Marine Commando" and to graduate training as all frontline marines are commandos by nature.

Recruitment

All four branches of the military recruit primarily from within the nation, although citizens from foreign nations may join under certain circumstances or if they are given consent by the monarch.
