Armed Forces of the Gymnasium State (Czech: Ozbrojené síly Státu Gymnázium), or by its former name Home Defense of the Gymnasium State (Czech: Domobrana Státu Gymnázium), are the military forces of the Gymnasium State. They consist of the Army of the Gymnasium State (Czech: Armáda Státu Gymnázium), the Air Force of the Gymnasium State (Czech: Letectvo Státu Gymnázium) and the Navy of the Gymnasium State (Czech: Námořnictvo Státu Gymnázium), as defined by the military reform from 29 August 2020. They're responsible for defence of the Gymnasium State. The current supreme commander of the Armed Forces is the President, although his powers are limited to declarations of war and mobilisation on the Senate's initiative.

History

The concept of military of the Gymnasium State was founded shortly after the Socialist State of Gymnasium on 4 September 2017, however it was first specified in January 2018 along the government reforms that established the Second Republic. It consisted only of the land force and required all citizens to serve if mobilised. The only mobilisation in the military history of the Gymnasium State was announced on 1 February 2018, marking the beginning of the Gymnasian-Bohemian Crisis. Although no actual battles took place during the subsequent war, the Home Defence at the time considered and invasion of Prague in an attempt to force František Koblanský to surrender, but did not go through with the plan due to lack of information. The Home Defense was demobilised on 17 February following the agreement between the two sides and was never mobilised again, even though there was a support to go to war against Republic of Vltava after it declared independence on 27 February 2020 claiming most of western Bohemia including the Gymnasium State as its territory. On 29 August 2020 a military reform was passed by the senate that reduced the Home Defence to the Army and established the Gymnasian Air Force and Navy, establishing the first proper structure to the Gymnasian military. On 4 September 2023, Tomáš Falešník executed the 2023 Gymnasian coup d'état wearing a part of the uniform of the Armed Forces, the new regime is not considered a military dictatorship however.

Structure

Diagram of the structure of the Armed Forces

The Armed Forces are nominally led by the president, but their powers are limited to declaration of mobilisation and war. The actual leadership of the military lies with the individual branches and their respective subordinate units. In total, the Armed Forces consist of nine units divided between three branches. The counterintelligence has an unique position within the Armed Forces as it is subordinate to all three branches, with the Army holdig the largest say in its leadership

2nd Special Purpose Regiment 21st Motorised Company

2nd Air Superiority Squadron 20th Flight
3rd Reconnaissance Squadron 30th Flight
Navy 1st Fleet 1st Flag Division
2nd Division

Each branch of the Armed Forces is headed by its respective commander, which is the Army General for the Army, Marshall for the Air Force and the Admiral for the Navy. The commanders are not allowed to interfere in the leadership of the other branches. Other ranks, subordinated to the commanders, also theoretically exist as they were established by the military reform in August 2020, but they were never assigned. Because of this, the individual units have also never been properly established and the Armed Forces only serve mostly symbolic purpose. The ranks also lack proper insignia.

Uniforms and equipment

Red headscarf, oldest part of the Gymnasian uniform

Home Defense of the Gymnasium State does not have its own unique uniforms. On 30 April 2019 a red headscarf was introduced as a symbol of the Armed Forces in case of mobilisation. No instruction on how the headscarf should be worn was given other than that it should be visible. It is however common that the headscarf is tied up around the top of the head as a red band either in place of or over a hat. The military reform on August 2020 also introduced distinguishing element for the individual branches in form of an upper part of clothing in the colour assigned to the respective branch – green for the Army, white for the Air Force and blue for the Navy.

As the Armed Forces play mostly ceremonial role in the micronation, their equipment was never provided centrally and is dependent on the private capabilities of their members. It is estimated that the Armed Forces is capable of utilising numerous improvised bows, airsoft guns and even muskets for combat and cars for transport. The Navy is also estimated to be able to provide canoes and kayaks. Although the Air Force of the Gymnasium State also exists, no planes or other flying machines are expected to be at its disposal. The exact state of Gymnasian military equipment is however completely unknown.
