Awhana officially known as Awhana Islands are islands in an archipelago layout, waiting to be located outside claimed costal areas. They were first mentioned by the inventor of the Awahan Installation System, Răzvan Juncu, on 12 April 2022, who claimed to have been discovered the cheapest way to install and produce artificial islands. The Awhana Islands consist of a group of interconnected islands. The exact location of these islands is not disclosed, as they are intentionally placed outside of claimed coastal areas to avoid any legal disputes or conflicts.

As further research and development continue, the Awhana Islands could become a model for the installation of artificial islands in other coastal regions around the world. The potential benefits of these islands include increased land availability, opportunities for economic growth, and preservation of natural resources.

Etymology

Awaha is derived from the word "aqua", meaning water (latin), giving reference to the motto "Aqua est vita dantis", meaning "Water is the one that gave us life".

Flag's etymology

The dark blue background represents the deep ocean, where the Awhana Islands are going to be installed.

The white palm leaf represents vegetation and life, represents wilderness and tropical areas, indicating the dream of one perfect tropical island. Its colour represents purity and peacefulness.

Both colours are working in unison, representing a perfect community.

Coat of arms' etymology

The Coat of Arms is composed of two main elements, a palm tree growing straight to the sky, representing the tropical aspect of Awhana and prosperity, and a yellow sun with wavy rays. The palm's colour illustrates the deep ocean's shade, and the position of the sun creates a contre jour effect, existent in dusk conditions.

Island design

Proposed island design with an active ecosystem

External structure

The external structure is made out of various materials like sand, lightweight rock, soil kept together with the use of a net in various layers. The external structure is fixed on the internal and stabilization structure and it presents various surface system (internal access trapdoors, stabilization systems such as the WPRW and the Four Arms Delimitation Layout)

Internal structure

The internal structure consists of the internal skeleton and the mounting points, but also for the various stabilization systems listed above in the External Structure section. It is the one that takes all the stress in critical situations and it's made to keep everything in one place. The internal structure is the most important aspect of the island design.

Active ecosystem

Each island is made to be as eco-friendly as possible, so each one has a special ecosystem suited for its size and purpose. Each ecosystem has, at its core, a smooth field of Poa Pratensis, commonly known as Kentucky Bluegrass, growing wildly on every spot of soil. Over it, each island has its unique set of plants, ranging from flowers to plants hanging from their sides. Underwater, algae is going to take over the islands.

Fauna

All the islands are considered too small for big fauna to live on them, but thanks to the underwater ecosystem, sea life could thrive. Species expected to be found are:

  • Rorqual or blue-fin whale (Balaenopteridae)
  • Long-finned pilot whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus)
  • Mediterranean Slipper Lobster (Scyllarides Latus)
  • European Shag (Phalacrocorax Aristotelis)
  • Turtles.

The future of Awhana

The project is currently in development, daily evolving and improving. Its final design depends on a lot of factors, such as tests results and results of computer simulations.
