The Baltic Principality (or Principality of Baltiya) is a micronation, that claims Scott Island in the Ross Sea, 500 kilometers northeast of Victoria Land, Antarctica.
History
The Baltic Principality was founded in 2007 as an absolute monarchy. It traces its history to the Slavic peoples of Baltic, centered arounde the mythical city of Vineta preëxisting to the sunken area to 11th century.
Prince Alex I Nero became the first ruler of the principality. In 2011, Alex and his wife were declared missing after not appearing on the national website for three months. Ilya Pakhomov became the next leader of the micronation. In 2012, the prince granted a new constitution, the "Charter of Self-Government of the Baltic". The principality in fact switched to republican form of government, where the prince is elected by popular vote for a period of one year. On March 17, 2013, Ilya Pakhomov resigned and was succeeded by Gary English I. He left the position in September that year. On January 1, 2015, Gary was re-elected Prince of the Baltic with no term limits. On July 7, 2015, Gary English announced his resignation and appointed Mr. Max Mann-Snikur acting Prince of the Baltic.
Politics
Currently Principality Baltic Republican monarchy based on the principles of popular democracy and self-government. There are two political parties in the principality, the Democratic Party and Social Democratic Party. All major political issues are resolved in the Baltic by the Althingi (General Congress of the citizens of the Baltic Principality). The number of citizens ranging from 10 to 25.
