Baustralia

Paloma
Envoy
Envoy Viscount of Englewood none

Relations between Baustralia and Paloma began in the late 2010s after Paloma recieved recognition from Baustralia. Relations have been historically hostile due to tension and conflict caused by the Sullivan ministry which led to Paloma ceasing diplomatic ties with the Kingdom in 2020 and will restore them in 2024 in a treaty signing conference.

Despite the diplomatic tensions, from 2022 onward, Baustralia and Paloma started small formal diplomatic interactions, with Paloma allowing Baustralian journalists to do interviews on members of the Paloman government, concluding in December 2023 with the approval of a treaty to be signed in 2024.

The Viscount of Englewood acts as ambassador from Baustralia. Baustralian diplomatic appointments are conducted virtually, thus the envoy is not actually sent to the other country. No envoy, usually in the form of an ambassador, has been "sent" to Baustralia from Paloma as of yet.

History

Considered Paloma's "first ally" in many documents, Baustralia was the first nation to recognize Paloma after its independence on 20 November 2019. Baustralian and Paloman relations remained relatively cordial from its independence until the Baustralian Civil War.

Paloman-Baustralian split

The Paloma-Baustralian split is an event that took place after the first Sullivan ministry's declaration of Aidan McGrath as a persona non-grata citing concerns of his questionable politics. Although nothing illegal happened, he was deemed by the government as unnecessarily calling elections, by means of a vote of confidence in the Timpson ministry, one month before the general election, and by calling a party election to regain leadership after being removed and readmitted to Parliament.

In Rex v. McGrath, a court case sought to fight and repeal the Persona Non Grata (McGrath) Act, the King testified that Sullivan mentioned to some MPs that McGrath has wasted the Treasury's time and resources too many times, and after punishment continues to do it. In the Act, it was stated that the King has kicked him out, demoted him, tried him for treason, but still wouldn't quit with his shenanigans.

Later on, in an attempt to remove Paloman influence from Baustralia, and according to the Act, the Parliament of Baustralia, the Parliament passed the Paloma (Citizenship) Act. This forced all Baustralian-Palomans to give up their citizenship from Paloma. Failure to do this in two days led to the expulsion of two Baustralians. The Fithiuania (Citizenship) Act allowed Palomans who reside in Portila to be exempt from the Paloman ban. The Act was repealed by the Persona Grata (McGrath) Act.

Although the Act caused little effect to Paloma, it was agreed by the Supreme Paloman to cease formal ties and rescind recognition of Baustralia and her Empire in May 2020.

Post split (2020-2023)

A treaty was introduced in May to attempt to rectify the relations between the two nations. The Treaty of Nuevo Holdertona did not last, and was rescinded by the Supreme Paloman. By December 2020, the second Sullivan ministry proved more sympathetic to Paloma, and the Paloma City Agreement was signed, with the Supreme Paloman making some modifications to the treaty. The modifications made removed the recognition of statehood, but not of sovereignty. This treaty remains in effect today. Tensions remained minimal throughout 2021 through to 2023, and relations began to mend upon McGrath's second tenure as Prime Minister of Baustralia.

Restored relations (2024-present)

In December 2023, a treaty was given legislative approval for an amicability treaty between the two states, and will be signed in 2024, to be signed in a video conference between the two leaders. The terms of the treaty are informally followed since legislative approval.
