The COVID-19 pandemic in Aenopia is a part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In Aenopia, it has resulted in 5 confirmed cases and 0 deaths.

Aenopia would largely avoid the effects of COVID-19 from its initial detection in November 2019 until March 2022, when the first case was recorded in a resident. Despite reporting zero cases for the first 28 months of the pandemic, the people of Aenopia adhered to mandates annoucnced by the UK Government from 2020 to 2022, of which most notably included the national lockdown introduced on 23 March 2020 and lifted in May of the same year. In addition to following UK guidelines, the government of Aenopia issued its own guidelines early into the pandemic, starting with a national state of concern before evolving into a state of emergency, and by proxy, stay-at-home mandates later in the month.

History

Origin

The first known outbreak of a novel coronavirus started in Wuhan City, Hubei, China, with the earliest known infected person becoming ill on 1 December 2019. The first case of COVID-19 was reported in the United Kingdom on 31 January 2020 in York, North Yorkshire. Despite this, Aenopia would not experience any cases of COVID-19 involving its residents until March 2022. WHO would later declare the virus as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 and advised "all countries should be prepared for containment, including active surveillance, early detection, isolation and case management, contact tracing and prevention of onward spread of 2019-nCoV infection." On the date of the declaration there were 7,818 cases confirmed globally, affecting 19 countries.

The United Kingdom would enter into a nationwide lockdown on 23 March 2020 to limit the spread, and by proxy, effects of COVID-19. Residents of Aenopia would in turn be forced to adhere to to British restrictions and regulations, including the stay-at-home mandate, which in turn would result in the Aenopian government adopting the same mandate in addition to the mandate issued by itself.

First cases

The Empire of Aenopia would record its first positive case of COVID-19 involving one of its residents on 21 March 2022, more than two years after initially declaring a national state of emergency and 28 months after the first case of COVID-19 was recorded in Wuhan. The case was recorded in the city of New Aberdare, with four more cases being recorded from 24–28 March.

The first resident recovered on 31 March 2022, with all residents recovering by mid April 2022.

Responses

A poster regarding N-COV-2019 released by the Aenopian Government early into the pandemic. The poster depicts a "Health Department", which was declared in February 2020 as a result of the pandemic, and would later fall into inactivity shortly after establishment.

Government

Responses from the Aenopian Government were released rarely, with the only statements being released in March 2020. Aenopia has remained in a national state of emergency since March 2020, and will remain in such a state 'for the forseeable future'.

The Government of Aenopia would not issue any statements on COVID-19, including any restrictions or mandates, until mid-March 2020, when a 'national state of concern' was declared by HRH Simon I on 12 March. On the date of the declaration there were 590 cases confirmed within the United Kingdom.
