HM King Calum I, also known as Caesar Calum, is the current King of the Grove, and the most senior Caesar in the Empire of Austenasia. Founder of Orly, Calum attended the same school as Esmond III and Jonathan I, Emperors of Austenasia, and was made a Knight of the Order of the Crown Prince in 2009.
Biography
In early July 2010, Emperor Esmond III of Austenasia - the then Emperor of the West - granted Calum the title of Caesar, and a few days later gave him authority to rule over the newly-founded nation of Orly. After a reign of less than three weeks, the Caesar divided Orly into the Kingdom of the Grove and the Kingdom of Copan. He remained King of the Grove, whereas he gave the throne of Copan to King Declan I of Moylurg upon the request of the then Crown Prince Jonathan.
On 12 November 2010, Esmond III deposed Calum and appointed a Lord Regent of the Grove in his place. In December 2010, Declan I declared Orly to be reunified under himself as Tsar, with Crown Prince Jonathan governing on his behalf as Viceroy. On 13 January 2011, the Viceroy reinstalled Calum as King of the Grove, but only as a local deputy to the Viceroy and as a vassal to the Tsar. Almost exactly a year later, on 14 January 2012, Calum was deposed from this position when Orly transitioned into a Kingdom as Declan declared it to be part of the United Kingdom of New Wessex, with its vassal monarchies being abolished. Calum was given the title Duke of the Grove.
Upon the Liberation of Orly from Wessaxon rule on 24 June 2013, Calum was reappointed King of a newly independent Kingdom of the Grove by the incumbent Emperor Jonathan I.
On 18 August 2016, Calum issued a decree forbidding visitors to the Grove to feed bread to the wildfowl, citing concerns about damage to their health and to the environment.
On 14 December 2016, 19 March and 16 June 2017, and 27 January 2019, Calum met Jonathan I and Princess Hannah at Deva Victrix in state visits to the Principality of Wildflower Meadows. On the third of these visits, he signed a treaty of mutual recognition and national friendship with the Principality.
On 31 December 2019, Calum visited Wrythe in a working visit to the Empire of Austenasia, his first time in the country; another visit followed on 16 September 2022. In November 2022, he attended the Wedding of Jonathan I and Princess Hannah along with his fellow Caesar the former Esmond III.
