The Imperial Federation of the Dharug Nation (IFDN for short, not to be confused with the Australian First Nation of the same name) is a landlocked self declared sovereign state located on East Coast Australia, within the Dharug First Nation. The capital city is the Marriyang Citadel (ENG Magpie Citadel). The Captaincy was created to create stronger connections with First Nation Australians and Europeans, and to fix the inequality with the original owners.

Etymology

The word Dharug is the name of the First Nation that the Captaincy is located in.

History

Pre-Nationhood

The original inhabitants of the Hawkesbury district were the Darug tribe of Aboriginals, also spelt as Dharug or Daruk. The river, which they called Derrubbin, was a focal point as a source of food and transport. The Darug people used the river to farm for fish, eels, water birds, and mussels. They also used the river as a mode of transport in bark canoes.

It was first settled by Europeans in 1794 in a bid to acquire arable land to feed the increasing population of the penal colony at Sydney. In April 1794, Lieutenant Governor Francis Grose submitted plans for the first 22 farms on the Hawkesbury River in the present Pitt Town Bottoms area. In June 1795 a camp of aborigines opposing the landtakings was harassed by a British regiment commanded by Paterson (who later regretted the necessary injustice).

By 1811 Governor Lachlan Macquarie established the five Macquarie Towns in the area. They are Windsor, Richmond, Castlereagh, Wilberforce and Pitt Town. Many of the early 19th century buildings still survive today. Ebenezer has the oldest surviving church and school building in Australia. Windsor District Council was formed in 1843 and disbanded in 1846. In 1871 the Borough Council of Windsor was founded and the Richmond Borough Council followed in 1872. The two councils amalgamated in 1949 to become the Municipality of Windsor. Colo Shire Council was established in 1906 and joined Windsor Municipal Council from 1 January 1981 to become Hawkesbury Shire Council.

Captaincy

On the 26th of July, 2021, Lord Captain Daniel I founded the Captaincy of Dharug by claiming the East Kurrajong Province for the Captaincy. On the 27th of July, the first edition of the constitution was put into power.

Imperial Federation

On the 2nd of August, the Captaincy was replaced with the Imperial Federation of the Dharug Nation, and the claims of the nation were extended to the Colo and Hawkesbury Rivers in the North, the Wallangambe and Grose Rivers in the West and the Hawkesbury River in the South and East. Despite this, the East Kurrajong Province remained the only territory controlled by the Federation, the rest of the claims being only Nominal.

Geography and Climate

The Imperial Federation resides within the Greater Sydney and Blue Mountains Region, specifically within the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley. The land is quite densely forested.

Administrative Regions

Duchy of East Kurrajong

The Duchy of East Kurrajong is the only claimed territory controlled by the nation. It is 32 acres in size and currently has 3 districts, a federal district, and a reserve.
