The Carolina Wars was a skirmish over the New European annexation of North Carolina.

Events

Battle of Forestbrook

Along the borders of the Kingdom of South Carolina and the frontier territories of North Carolina there were always border disputes. King Matthew never took the disputes too seriously, until the actions escalated. Reports state that on 1 May 2009 While traveling with a convoy of troops on routine military exercises in the Forestbrook area of Myrtle Beach, SC, the King, his staff, and his then R.S.C. Garde du Corps troops encountered some 50 armed people in the training area. The land being used for the maneuvers was on the estate owned by Graf Nikolaus von Bender. When confronted by King Matthew, they answered and explained that they were a Communist militia from North Carolina. After a conversation they agreed to leave. While on his way returning to inform the rest of his troops, King Matthew was shot at from behind by the militia also a member of his staff and some of his soldiers were wounded. Wounded in his left shoulder and leg, he called for reinforcements and the few troops with him held the line until the rest of the regiment arrived on the seen. Despite the ambush, the Carolinians pushed back and fought a long battle lasting till the 3rd of May. At the height of the battle, King Matthew personally led a charge through the center of the N.C.M.L.F.'s lines. The enemy was very surprised by this audacity and fled the battlefield, those who did not flee were captured, including the faction's leader Jack Wagner. The leader told of his organization and its goal to crush the New European forces in South Carolina. Thus, after hearing this, King Matthew, for the safety and viability of New Europe, proclaimed the Annexation of North Carolina. This meant the Kingdom of South Carolina was to absorb the State of North Carolina, due to the covert aggression showed by the North Carolinian Marxists. With the defeat of the only known communist force fighting for North Carolina it was declared that the cause for it was lost. According to the report submitted to Kaiser Wilhelm, the N.C.M.L.F. was disbanded.

Capitulation

When the occupation began, many North Carolinians greeted the King with zeal, showing that only a small minority opposed the New Europeans. When the State had been secured, Matthew with his staff and army assembled, and with the Kaiser's approval declared himself King of a Greater Carolina, encompassing the States of South Carolina and North Carolina. Additionally King Matthew added the titles of Grand Duke of South Carolina (Großherzog von Südkarolina), and Prince of North Carolina (Fürst von Nord Karolina) to his name. At the same ceremony he also hosted his Marxist foes, and honored their good fight against the New European forces. He also expressed his wariness at the situation, since both groups were such good soldiers, but had different ideologies, and could have been friends, and perhaps allies if not for political faction in the world. This sign of charity and good will by the king was well received by his former foes, who now agreed under the articles of The Treaty of Forrestbrook, agreed to be loyal citizens of Greater Carolina, as long as they were not persecuted for their beliefs.

Legacy of the event

The event itself sparked the entire Cold War era, and has since been disputed between those involved and Erusia that the event itself occured at all. The Kingdom of Greater Carolina was partitioned into North Carolina and South Carolina once again. Reason being is because New Europe redrew its borders and claimed territory based on the population of ethnic-europeans in the continental U.S. But negotiations with the Republic of New Afrika allowed New Europe to keep its historical locations in South Carolina.

Intermicronational response

Erusia

The incident provoked outrage in the Democratic People's Republic of Erusia, a Communist State that has been seen as a long-time friend and ally of the Empire of New Europe. The senior leadership of the Erusian National Communist Party denounced the incident as violating the terms of the New Euro-USMR Alliance] which Erusia inherited from the USMR, and as being nothing less than a direct attack on the intermicronational socialist movement. The Central Committee of the Communist Party ruled that the Democratic People's Republic could not tolerate what it saw as an "act of brutal Imperialist aggression that clearly violates the terms [of our treaty]" and announced that it would terminate the alliance, providing the 24 hour warning that is required. Since news of the decision has reached members of lower institutions in the Party it is believed that there have been calls from within the junior leadership that Erusia should go further and immediately terminate all ties to the Empire, but such ideas have been rejected by the Central Committee who feel that the Imperial Government can only be held responsible for failing to address the issue, not for the Carolina War itself. The Erusian leader, Robert Lethler, has made it clear he does not hold the Imperial Government responsible for the war and continues to hold great respect for Emperor Wilhelm and his leadership, ideological differences aside. Somewhat controversially, Erusia has also declared that all members of the North Carolinan Marxist Liberation Faction be given the title Hero of the People's Revolution and that the events of May 10 be commemorated in future years as the anniversary of the NCMLF's defeat.

When the biography of King Matthew I on MicroWiki was updated with a statement that indicated Matthew I had hosted the Marxist faction at his new coronation and stated that he had "expressed his wariness at the situation, since both groups were such good soldiers, but had different ideologies, and could have been friends, and perhaps allies if not for political faction in the world", the Supreme People's Commissioner of Erusia was outraged by these new statements that he called "shameless, nonsensical propaganda that indicates a Marxist revolutionary group has endorsed an Imperialist government whole-heartedly". The Commissioner has established that this new statement was deeply offensive to the Erusian government, the Commissioner believing that it is "shameless propaganda" and "a second major diplomatic blunder that demonstrates the King has no understanding of the current situation". He has made it clear that the incident has further damaged bilateral ties and is likely to be met with equal outrage by other leading Communist politicians.
