The Carolinian State, also known as the Carolinian Civilization, was a puppet state of the United States, though it functioned more as a territory of the nation rather than a country. Not much is known about it. It existed during the Cold War, and ran as one-man dictatorship until 1997, when Harold's father, who was the leader of it, became an adult. The nation was formed when Harold's father was born. It is considered by some to be semi-mythical. The nation fell apart when the Carolinian Republic was formed, and eventually the nation succumbed to Communism in 2012.

History

Overview

Much of Carolinia's history can be summed up by the Cold War. America was still vehemently Anti-Communist, and funded many dictatorships to stop any Communist activity. Carolinia, which was formed after Harold's father was born, was also Anti-Communist and a Dictatorship. This Dictatorship continued until 1997, when Harold's father became an adult, and the Cold War had long ended. Eventually, Harold's father got married in 2005, and the reigns of power were handed over to Harold's mother, and after Harold was born, the Carolinian Republic was formed, and eventually, when Harold grew older, he seized power in the Carolinian Republic in 2012, and made it Communist, thus completely undoing what the Carolinian State was for.

Cold War Period (1979 - 1991)

In 1979, the Cold War was still in full swing. The Khmer Rouge in Cambodia was being invaded by Vietnam, Maoism was effectively ending in China, Iran was ousting it's Shah, etc. Thus, the U.S. still had a need to prevent anything occurring in America. In that same year, the Carolinian State was formed, and it began as an Anti-Communist Dictatorship supported by the United States.

However, nothing happened after the foundation. The population grew slowly throughout the 1980s, but stagnation prevented any growth from occurring, and the Cold War slowly began to wind down as Communism collapsed. By 1991, the Cold War was over, and there was no longer any need for Anti-Communist resistance.

Carolinian Worker's Rebellion (1989 - 1997)

By 1989, the Cold War gradually began ending. In 1989, the Berlin Wall was toppled and Nicolae Ceausescu was overthrown. This sent shockwaves throughout the Communist world. This led to protests in Carolinia and Communist rebels began attempting to topple the Carolinian government and proclaimed a Provisional Government known as the Commune of Carolinia. In late 1990, as the Cold War was just ending, the protests became a rebellion, after Carolinian leadership began to get into fights with locals, leading to intense clashes. By 1991 the Communist world collapsed and the rebellion in Carolinia grew.

This effectively lead to a split in the country, and the formation of a new government, which is now known as the Carolinian Worker's Republic. This rebellion lasted until 1997, when Harold's father became an adult and moved on with life, however, the war never officially ended, and it led to Carolinian territory in South Carolina being overrun by Communists in 2009.

Collapse of Dictatorship and Modern Era (1991 - present)

By 1991 the dictatorship began to fall apart. It quickly lost support due to the growing rebellion and was eventually forced to retreat after the Communists gained ground. By 1997 it was eventually ended and Carolinia became a Republic. The Carolinian Worker's Rebellion continued until 1997. Carolinia stabilized. By 2005 Harold's father surrendered power to Harold's mother. In 2006 Harold Duighan was born. On 27 July 2009 Carolinia fled its territory in South Carolina and Communist forces took over. Carolinia still claims territory there however. The Carolinian State was dissolved in 2006 but was reestablished in 2021.

Politics and Government

The nation had no real system of governance besides the nation being run as a one-man dictatorship.

Elections

Elections weren't held until 1997. Between 1997 and 2012, elections were meant to be held every four years. It changed to every year after 2012.
