The Cat Nation is a micronation that was founded on 1 January 2006, which was developed out of a joke created by a young Harold Duighan when he was around 8 or 9 years old, to document the supposed tribalism and territorial nature that developed between his cats.

Etymology

The name of the Cat Nation was coined by Harold Duighan when he began documenting the tribalistic and territorial nature of his cats. He felt the way his cats acted were like how a nation worked, so he called it the Cat Nation.

History

Mazzy Era

The first ruler was Mazzy, Harold's first cat, who ruled between 1 January 2006 to 1 January 2010. The actual date of her accession to the throne was officially Mazzy's birth date, however, it was lost to history, so the date has been changed to 1 January, and the date for the end of her rule was supposed to be her death, however, it has also been lost to history, so it has been changed to 1 January. She was the first ruler of the Cat Nation, and served as the so-called Alpha, which is the official leader of the nation. She served as the Alpha of the Cat Nation due to her being the only citizen of the Cat Nation. She then died in 2010 in a veterinary clinic, after her heart stopped, and was then replaced by Kira, and she changed the nation radically.

Kira Era

The ascension of Kira to the throne of Alpha began her rule nearly 11 year rule as the Alpha. This has been referred to as the Kira Era, where Kira ruled practically unopposed. She instituted a dictatorship, and ruled solely by herself until around 14 September 2019, when Harold's family brought a new cat home, named Sam, who challenged her rule. Later on, Chibi was brought home by the family, and Kira's grip on power began to slip. This period between 14 September 2019 to 5 September has been known as the Great Schism.

Great Schism

The Great Schism (2019 - 2020), was a period of civil war in the Cat Nation where the more Conservative Absolute Monarchist faction, lead by Kira, and the pro-Constitutional Monarchist and Republican faction, lead by Chibi and Sam, fought against each other in a protracted power struggle that lasted nearly a year. It was characterized by a sort of guerilla warfare type ambushes would occur between the cats, namely involving the cats jumping out at each other from hiding places and attacking each other.

There was an attempt by Kira to kill Sam early on, when tensions were high between September and December 2019, where she attempted to corner Sam and kill her when she was out of sight of Harold's family, as they guarded her due to fears that Kira may kill her. Those fears were justified on that day when Sam escaped the family's grasp, fled into the basement, and hisses could be heard that were uttered by Kira. Sam disappeared for a while, but was quickly retrieved unharmed. However, the conflict died down after a while, but suddenly exploded once again when Chibi was brought home, and fights increased between the factions, as Kira became more distressed and aggressive when she realized her power was slipping. It culminated in her ousting on 5 September 2020, when the pro-Republican faction, now known as the Cat Rebels, finally overpowered the pro-Monarchists and established the Cat Republic.

Republican Era (Chibi Era)

The Cat Republic was a war time state formed during the Edenian-Cat War, when the Edenian government, under the rule of the Confederate Duchy of Eden, declared war on the Cats, who had joined forces as the Cat Rebels. However, it was quickly routed and crushed by 10 October. It was officially dissolved on this day, but it was still in de facto existence afterwards. Eventually, the Cat Rebels went to war again during the Duighan-Cat War, but the war ended in a stalemate after about 10 days. The Cat Republic still exists, though it is mostly inactive, and is only de facto independent. There have been rumors though that the Wamongian government may attempt to coup the Cat Republic and return Kira to power.
