Chernotskya, formally known the Chernotskyan People's Republic, is a micronation oriented around Caudonian & Ethosian culture while adhering to Western values. The nation is located within the Rust Belt and is a seperatist state founded shortly after the dissolution of the Bauwer State. The purpose of Chernotskya was to form a state in order to preserve a state identity of the Slavic and Germanic identity of the predecessor state of which Chernotskya ceded from.

Etymology

The name "Chernotskya" derives from the the word 'Cherno' which refers to the Black Sea, of which is the region the majority of Chernotskya's slavic culture and people have come from. The term 'skya' does not have a translation but is believed to be in reference to mean "land of" i.e. "Land of the Black Sea" (Not to be confused with the term 'Cherno' from Bohemia Interactive's ArmA series.)

History

Early History

The first iteration of the Chernotskyan state was first founded in late 2021 to early 2022 by a group of Ozark Sector separatists known as 'Meskerites' by the Bauwer State. 'Meskerite' is a term known exclusively in old Ethosian politics to be in reference to the historical Ethosian political philosopher "Ragin Mesker". The state was founded and declared but shortly dissolved as the nation, at the time, could not contend with other states within the Ozark Sector.

In July 2022 the mention of Chernotskya was brought up in the Bauwer State Parliament by now Chernotskyan President Gabriel Sebastian who wished to create a state separate from Joshua Stoddard's original vision of a nation state; one that more specifically adhered to the Central and Eastern European history and groups that occupied the mostly Anglo-Saxon state.

In August 2022 following political instability in the Bauwerscteit Forbond (Bauwer Federation) the government resigned and declared a dissolution to the Federation leaving Cimbrun to take over the Ozark territories and the Rust Belt territories to declare the state of Chernotskya; more officially the Chernotskya People's Republic however the term 'People's Republic' is in reference to the state being ran as a democracy and not a Socialist State.

Geography

Chernotskya is predominantly located within the Wabash Valley of the Rust Belt. The Wabash Valley is a region located in sections of both Illinois and Indiana. It is named for the Wabash River and, as the name is typically used, spans the middle to the middle-lower portion of the river's valley and is centered at Terre Haute, Indiana. The term Wabash Valley is frequently used in local media in Clinton, Lafayette, Mount Carmel, Princeton, Terre Haute, and Vincennes all of which are either on or near the Lower Wabash River.

Climate

In Chernotskya, the summers are long, warm, humid, and wet; the winters are freezing, snowy, and windy; and it is partly cloudy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 20 °F to 84 °F and is rarely below 2 °F or above 92 °F. This allows for the mass cultivation of 'food crops' such as lettuce, corn, tomatoes, carrots, and potatoes.

Biodiversity

Apart from its historic significance, the Wabash is also "a treasure-chest of rare and endangered species, and serves as the habitat for a wide diversity of plant and animal life".[1] In addition to these species, the river is home to 150 species of fish, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, sauger, rock bass, catfish, and paddlefish – the oldest surviving animal species in North America. Forests and wetlands along the Wabash River harbor many native species, including osprey, bald eagles, bobcats, river otters, and the Indiana bat.

Approaching Ecological Disaster

Currently the Wabash valley faces many issues due to the increased draining and development of lands around the 500 miles long Wabash River. The Wabash River provides up to 72% of Chernotskya's drinking water, and by extension, the US State of Indiana. Sediments and pollutants from agricultural fields and urban areas have contributed to the Gulf of Mexico’shypoxic zone,” and has severely affected the Gulf’s fisheries and wildlife. The Gulf of Mexico hypoxic zone was first documented in 1972 and is one of the largest of the 400 hypoxic zones around the globe. Due to the increase of pollution in Wabash the river has seen the disappearance or extinction of 7 fish species and 18 mussel species that were once native to the river are no longer found there. Currently the Chernotskyan government is working with local groups in an effort to clean up the Wabash Valley and to lobby for better efforts to preserve the natural environment of the Valley.

Politics

Chernotskya is a democracy under a semi-presidential system with its own separate legislative, judicial, and executive branches while also respecting a figurehead monarch, Prince William I of the Principality of Caudonia.
