The Commander-in-Chief is the highest office in the Armed Forces of New Melanesia. The commander-in-chief, by custom, is typically the President of New Melanesia.
The duties of the office include commissioning officers, appointing the Chief of Defence Staff and other Branch Chiefs of Staff, issuing awards, promoting senior officers to the ranks of Field Marshall, Fleet Admiral and General of the Air Force, among other duties.
