The December 2021 Georgienstinian congressional election were held on 2 December 2021.

These elections resulted in an equal 8–8 split between Georgienstine First and Vision Georgienstine, so Vice President Tom Mark will cast the tie-breaking votes in organizing the National Congress. The election thereby results in a Georgienstine First as Mark is from the party. Georgienstine First made minor gains in the popular vote but lost one seat. Vision Georgienstine suffered minor losses in the popular vote but gained two seats.

Background

The October 2021 Georgienstinian congressional election resulted in Georgienstine First becoming the majority party again.

After the election, congressman Owen O'Lachtna left the Federalist Party to join Georgienstine First citing that the party no longer corresponded with his political beliefs. He stated that he intended to form a protectionist faction with congressman Andrew Perdomo and vice-president Tom Mark (though Mark does not go by this label), despite only 6% of the party openly identifying as such.

On 11 October 2021, congressperson May Junkin called for a leadership review for Minority Leader Ben Olson. Instead, an election for the office was held and Pickles would run in it. Junkin received three votes, Pickles, the incumbent Minority Leader received two, Ariel Lederman received one and one abstained. After being removed as Minority Leader, Pickles ran and won the caucus's nomination for speaker.

The same day, Addison Dillon was chosen as Minority Whip.

On 12 October 2021, the speaker election was inconclusive with Andrew Perdomo receiving 7 votes, to Ben Olson's 6, to Ariel Lederman’s 1, with 3 abstaining. Dean of the National Congress Raphaël Olivier exercises the duties of the speaker until a speaker is elected.

On 25 October 2021, congressman Ariel Lederman resigned, citing partisanship fuelled by Georgienstine First and his personal life as his reasons. Lederman wishes to run again in the next congressional election. The seat remains vacant.

On 12 November 2021, congressperson Owen O'Lachtna resigned and was replaced by Isaiah Burdette.

On 14 November 2021, Addison Dillon was removed as Minority Whip and replaced by Ben Olson.

On 16 November 2021, it was announced that the New Progressive and Federalist parties would run a joint list in the next congressional election. The list adopted the name Vision Georgienstine, on 23 November 2021.

Electoral system and organization

The National Congress is composed of 16 seats elected by proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency, with a legal threshold of 1 full seat (6.25%), and residuals assigned by the D’Hondt method.

Campaign

Political observers have noted that the campaign has been more divisive than in other elections, due to May Junkin's election as Minority Leader and the opposition to Georgienstine First being united. As Minority Leader, Junkin has accused the ruling party of partisanship and voter suppression, instead of opposing and criticizing Georgienstine First for their political positions, which are broadly popular with the electorate.

Despite campaigning not having officially begun, parties have already been organizing efforts and canvassing. In late October, the Federalist Party released its first posters on issues such as individual liberty. Georgienstine First followed by releasing a poster associating President Raphaël Olivier to the party. In late November, the parties began releasing posters on many issues.

Georgienstine First

On 19 November 2021, Georgienstine First released its electoral list. The party campaigned heavily on president Raphaël Olivier’s tenure.

Vision Georgienstine

On 16 November 2021, it was announced that the New Progressive and Federalist parties would run a joint electoral list. The list was released on 19 November 2021 and it adopted the name Vision Georgienstine on 23 November 2021. The alliance accused Georgienstine First of partisanship and voter suppression. This was the first congressional election in which only one option was on the ballot against Georgienstine First.

Referendums

A referendum to merge the states of Drayton and Gerogopol passed with 66.7% of the vote, though no measures have been taken to merge both states. A referendum to adopt the Eastern Time Zone for the possible new state failed with 66.7% of the population voting against it.
