The Islamic Kingdom of Kaliqan (/ˌkälɪˈtʃän/), formerly and colloquially referred to as Albulenia[c] is a micronation primarly located in Kosovo. It has 2 other territories in Germany and a second in Kosovo. Kaliqan was founded in April 2022 and obtained sovereignty in October 2022.

Kaliqan is an absolute monarchy governed under sharia law.

Etymology

The term "Kaliqan" derives from the town Kaliqan in Kosovo, in which its capital is located. Its previous name, "Albulenia", still commonly used, refers to the Battle of Albulena.

History

Kaliqan was founded in April 2022, and attained sovereignty in October 2022. From its establishment in April until its declaration of independence in October, it was a constitutional monarchy. On 25 October 2022, it was made a reduced absolute monarchy, and on 13 January 2024, it was made an absolute monarchy. Its founder and incumbent monarch, Emir I was removed from his role of president of Crovolia, prompting Kaliqan's independence. Nearing 2023, Kaliqan's relations with Krovaria soured, and supported its prime rival, the Red Leaf Union. It partook in a shortly lasting spy-war with Krovaria as a result. King Emir I and Josef Hoffmann, the leader of Crovolia, shared an immense friendship for years before Kaliqan was established. Kaliqan in early 2023 gave diplomatic support to Zeprana during the Zeprano-Elarian War. In mid-2023 during Elias' dispute for independence with Shahawkia, it also gave diplomatic support to Elias. Throughout its history, Kaliqan has joined 3 micronational unions and/or pacts, all of which it departed from.

Politics and government

Kaliqan is an absolute monarchy. There are 4 ranks in Kaliqan's executive: king, grand duke, prince, and duke. Having an heir as a family member goes against Islamic teachings; Josef Hoffmann, a close friend of Emir I served as the heir of Kaliqan and king of Kaninburg, then later resigned. The grand duke of Kaliqan is not used for regional status. Its incumbent Grand Duke is Auryn B.[d] Each state of Kaliqan is governed by a minister. Its capital has a special status for its governor: king. Ministers are appointed directly by the monarch.

The nation is governed under sharia law, following Islamic regulation and tradition. Government officials are not required to follow the Islamic faith, but are required to follow one of the Abrahamic faiths. Law enforcement is irrelevant in Kaliqan, as it is immensely law-abiding.

Kaliqan does not have an armed force.

Citizenship

Citizenship in Kaliqan is almost only obtained through birth or inheritance, with naturalization being almost impossible without a Kaliqani relative.
