Elections in Arlandica
According to the 2022 Arlandican constitution, an annual general election is held to choose the President of the Parliament. The Presidents of the Parliament are elected by the Governor-Representatives of each province. In this democratic process, the Governor-Representatives, who are appointed by the monarch, exercise their role in selecting the individual who will lead the Parliament for the next term.
Election attempt for Governors
On February 5, 2023, when the country had different election system, Arlandican government attempted to conduct an election for the governors of each province. The process went smoothly in all provinces except for Galrea, where instability marred the elections. While this marked the first-ever election in Arlandican history, it regrettably did not yield successful results in Galrea.
Procedure
The election of the President of the Parliament takes place following the opening of the legislative session. During this period, any member of Parliament becomes eligible to be nominated for the position. The President of the Parliament assumes the responsibility of serving a one-year term, with the possibility of being re-elected to continue their dedicated service to the kingdom.
Recorded votes are cast through electronic devices or by actually calling the roll. In the case of electronic voting, each member of the Parliament uses a device to cast their vote, and the results are automatically recorded in the system. On the other hand, when calling the roll, each member's name is called, and they verbally announce their vote, which is then recorded manually by the monarch.
The election process is designed to ensure transparency and fairness, offering equal opportunities for all members of Parliament to actively participate. The candidate who secures a majority vote from all respective members is rightfully declared as the President of the Parliament.
2023 election results
On July 29, 2023, a constitutional amendment paved the way for the country's first successful general election. In this historic election, Benz Gian Arellano emerged as the sole candidate for the position of President of the Parliament, making it an uncontested contest.
Governor-Representatives from Mainland Arlandica, Nueva Bago, and Lémarita, where Arellano represents, came together to exercise their voting rights. Meanwhile, the remaining Governor-Representatives from Paddaya and Galrea choosed to not participate from the election, but they expressed their support for the winner.
