These were the first elections in Yurtyzstan's history. Supreme PotentateJ.J. Hakimoto declared that voting would be compulsory. The Supreme Potentate was made an elected position, and the Supreme People's Assembly was established. Winners were determined by simple majority.
The results of the election were cited by the Yurtyzstani Workers' Party as a sign of widespread popular support; however, dissidents questioned this in the months following, noting that the elections were single-party and non-competitive.
On May 6, 2011, Hakimoto abolished the post of Supreme Potentate and dissolved the Supreme People's Assembly, invoking emergency powers as Chairman of the National Defence Commission.
The system used for these elections was radically different from that used in the previous elections. The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, a two-person body within the Supreme People's Assembly, was elected directly, and the other three members of the Supreme People's Assembly and the two members of the National Defence Commission were chosen by the Presidium. It was also the first multi-party election in Yurtyzstan, and the first whose results were not disputed.
Yurt Ma Shin and Yurt Hye Jik of the Social Democratic Party, and Po Er Kwa Deul of the Impoverished Yurtyzstanis' Front, were chosen as the three other Supreme People's Assembly members. J.J. Hakimoto and Oon Em Pyo Iid selected themselves to sit on the National Defence Commission.
