Not to be confused with Crown Prince Nicholas of Førvania.

Nick Fredriksson (born 27 February 2002) is the former leader of the micronation Førvania. Born in 2002, he founded the Empire shortly after his thirteenth birthday, and has gained a growing reputation within the MicroWiki community. He is the grandson of Crown Prince Stephen and Crown Princess Jean, and the nephew and cousin of other royal family members.

Early life

Fredriksson was born at a Melbourne hospital in 2002, and after a few days, was taken to his parent's home. He spent his formative years learning to do all of the things toddlers do, walking, talking, and potty training. After the family moved in 2003, he went to primary school in 2008, and moved closer to the school to his present house in July 2009.

Tallulah Island

In September 2011, Fredriksson, as well as two of his friends, created a website called NMR: Kings of Random. With the same set of friends, they made plans to stay overnight at a small island (the future Mrs Kaspar is Awesome Island) in a lake outside the local supermarket. There was planning, including how they would record it and upload to YouTube, but nothing happened.

Early micronationalism

In 2012, Fredriksson read about the Principality of Sealand, and this inspired him to create his own nation, basing it in the islands outside the local supermarket. He spent most of the next two years planning his micronation, with the name Førvania emerging in 2014, but nothing ever came to fruition. An initial idea for a flag was alternating red, white, and blue diagonal stripes. There were also ideas incorporating the Southern Cross.

Reign as Emperor

Founding Førvania

In February 2015, Fredriksson went to high school, where he made some friends, including Nicholas and Alec. He eventually started talking with them about micronationalism, and on March 10, in a geography class, he founded the Empire, annexing the two islands from Australia.

Pre-independence

Most of the first three months were spent laying the groundworks of the Empire, recruiting citizens, appointing Prime Ministers, and doing a miscellany of other things. There were not many real troubles during this period, with exceptions being the Battle of Phillip Island and the continued leaving of Prime Ministers.

Post-independence

After declaring independence in June 2015, Emperor Nicholai oversaw the expansion of the Empire, the Allambi War, the removal of Willis from the post of Prime Minister, and generally performed his duties as a capable Emperor. However, people grew discontent, and when he stood down temporarily for personal reasons, the dissenters saw this as their time to attempt to overthrow Emperor Nicholai. The reason is unknown why they wanted to do this, but the Emperor theorises that it is so they could frustrate him. After defeating the rebellion, he was coronated, and the Empire has remained stable since then.

In December 2015, due to a technical glitch, Nicholai was blacklisted from the MicroWiki forum for a few hours.

Sporting career

Emperor Nicholai has played both Australian football and cricket for his local club.

Australian Rules

Full name Nicholai Fredriksson
Nickname Stats
Birth 27 February 2002, Melbourne, Australia
Positions Forward pocket, half-forward flank, back pocket
Playing career 2012-, 57 games, 4 goals
Career highlights Captain for one game, 2012
2 votes in the league best and fairest, 2014

He made his Aussie rules debut in 2012 for the under-10s, and was immediately given the nickname 'Stats', due to his encyclopaedic knowledge of AFL, particularly the Western Bulldogs, the team he supports. He was captain for one game in that year, as the captaincy of the team varied from week to week. Two weeks after that, he scored his first goal from thirty metres out.

In 2013, he moved up to the under 12s. The team didn't play well that year, but he did score a goal at his home ground.

2014 was a much better year for the team, but not Nicholai himself. He spent most of the year playing on the bench, due to the strength of the team. He scored a goal, a toe poke from the goal square after his teammate failed to take the mark. To this day, the teammate insists he deliberately tapped it down. They played finals that year, but lost the preliminary final by one point to be eliminated.

His first year of under 14s, in 2015, was the worst his team had performed, with one win from the season. Nicholai, however, was getting much more game time due to a lack of numbers. He played his 50th game at his home ground in 2015, and was chaired off the field, before scoring a goal three weeks later after a hand pass from a teammate who was taking a set shot. He ended the season with a career total of 57 games and 4 goals.

On July 17, 2016, Nicholai announced his retirement, effective at the end of the season.

Cricket

Emperor Nicholai made his cricketing debut in October 2013 for his local U12 cricket club, being inspired by his uncle Eamon, a fast bowler who once bowled Marcus Stoinis in a Victorian Premier Cricket match. He took a wicket on debut, but his first runs didn't come until December. He ended the season with 5 runs and 2 wickets.

In the 2014/15 season, despite the team not winning a match, he had a career-best season with the bat, nearly pushing his average up to 1. His bowling was more economical, but he didn't take a wicket.

2015/16, his first year of U14s, was easily the best season of his career. As of January 2016, he had a batting average of 3.5 for the season, and a bowling average of 15.5.[1]

Personal life

Fredriksson currently lives in the Yarra Valley with his family. He is currently in secondary education at a nearby high school. Interests of his include video games, sports, and geography (in September 2015 he founded the Førvanian Geographical Society for this very purpose). He spends his free time away from the Empire reading, writing posts for his blog, Statscrunch and playing Kerbal Space Program.

On September 17, 2016, Fredriksson announced via Twitter that he had Asperger's syndrome.[2] He had previously made this announcement in the Micropolitan Lounge, but that was a small community.

Fredriksson is openly bisexual, which he announced in February 2017.[3]

  1. Fredriksson believes this to be in error, however, as he was registered as taking two wickets in a match, which is something he has never done in his career.
