empireofadammia.org.uk is the national website of the Empire of Adammia. It is owned by the Ministry of Citizenship and Information, and developed and hosted by Top Hat Software.

History

The Adammic government previously operated a site on the free Webs service, using the address adammia.webs.com. Per the Government Ministries Act 2013, this site was the responsibility of the Ministry of Information. Throughout 2013 it was realised that the free version of Webs was insufficient, and the decision was made to develop a website from scratch. In September 2013, the Ministry of Finance introduced the Contributions Scheme, raising money from citizens to pay for the cost of a website. At its first official meeting on 8 December 2013, the Cabinet of Adammia authorised the registration of a web domain and the development of a website. The domain was purchased on 12 December 2013, and this was the very first instance of public spending by the Adammic government. The High Lord Overseer of Creatuxia, Sir Damian Parker, provided web hosting for free, based on one of his own virtual private servers.

Following a development period by Emperor Adam I, version 1.0 was launched in early 2014; the Webs website was decommissioned around the same time. As this was the Emperor's first website, it was considered quite primitive, with some observers commenting that it looked like a website from a decade prior. Subsequent improvements were made to the user interface over the following months. These included the replacement of the site map with an open-source drop-down menu. This is the only Javascript on the site and the only part of the site's code not to have been written by Adam I.

After Creatuxia dissolved in 2015, it became difficult for the government to contact Parker to restart the web server if it crashed, making the website increasingly unreliable. For a time, the government switched to using free web hosting provided by honourary citizen Sir John Richardson. However this too would prove to be unreliable.

On 28 January 2017, Minister of Information Madam Julie Foster officially outsourced the maintenance and development of the website to Top Hat Software, the Emperor's private software development firm. Top Hat acquired a web hosting bundle for both its own website and the Adammic website, and since then it has been much more reliable. The Ministry of Information merged into the Ministry of Citizenship and Information in August 2017, which since then has continued to exercise ultimate control over the website's content. Top Hat updates the website content periodically, and continues to make minor improvements, mainly to its system of archives for legislation and government documents.

In recent years, the Emperor has alluded to wanting to develop a version 2.0 of the website, based on the skills he has learned through his macronational employment.

Funding

Funding to maintain the Adammic national website is traditionally considered a benchmark for a functioning Adammic government. As such it is fundamental to every annual Budget, and on occasions when the government is not able to pass a Budget by the usual deadline, emergency appropriations typically only make reference to maintaining the website, and little else.
