The Exilarchy of Ashoka (a.k.a Ashoka, Ashoka Empire, 2nd Mauyran Empire) is a new-country project micronation located in the south-west parts of Skåne, Sweden as well as in the Baltic Sea. The nation is a Buddhist one based on Buddhist values and the Dharma named after the great Indian Emperor Ashoka of the Maurya Dynasty. He ruled almost all of the Indian subcontinent from 269 BC to 232 BC. He conquered the kingdom named Kalinga, which no one in his dynasty had conquered starting from Chandragupta Maurya. His reign was headquartered in Magadha (present-day Bihar, India). He embraced Buddhism from the prevalent Vedic tradition after witnessing the mass deaths of the war of Kalinga, which he himself had waged out of a desire for conquest.
Ashoka is currently in a state of Officially Declared Diaspora due to biological disaster and lack of set territory. This makes the nation a exilarchy, a form of government, usually theocratic or monarchic, that is established and constituted for rule over an ethnic or religious diaspora rather than over the place of origin whence the diaspora originates. Although named after the indian emperor Ashoka the Ashoki government do not lay any claim to the land of his empire.
History

The Exilarchy of Ashoka was founded on 30 August 2010 by the Emperor Maurya and the Grand Assembly. It was also on this day that the Constitution of Exilarchy of Ashoka was written down and signed by the emperor. The document contained among other things guidelines on how the governing structure of the nation should be maintained as well as the duties and rights of its citizens and leaders. Later that day two more documents were written, namely the Declaration of Ashoki Independence and Criminal Law of Exilarchy of Ashoka. These documents were revisited after the end of the Autumn Revolution. The next day, on 31 August 2010, the application for citizenship was opened and a massive marketing campaingn was launched on Facebook. Soon people from all corners of the planet sign on as citizens.

Only a few days after the founding of Ashoka a state of Diaspora was declared by the Grand Tribunal as biological disaster struck the ecosystem of Dynan Island, the capital of Ashoka. Studies performed showed that the wildlife and the cosystem was affected by the human presence on the island in a way that could not be allowed to continue. Being a nation based on Buddhist ideas the Grand Tribunal saw no other way than to respect the ecosystem of the island and evacuate. However, the Grand Tribunal decided to keep supremecy of the island and not disband the nation but rather live on as a true exilarchy until Dynan Island could once more be populated or new land could be found.

On September 11, 2010 the Exilarchy of Ashoka joined the Organisation of Active Micronations. The organisation aims to provide real assistance to newer and fledging micronations, maintain its numerous projects, contribute in a meaningful and relevant way to micronationalism and other aims outlined in the OAM Charter. As soon as the nation was accepted into the organisation they began showing interest in a multitude of topics, the OAM Maritime Agency and the Micronational Broadcasting Union just to name a few.
Autumn Revolution

After a period of great turmoil between Emperor Maurya and the Grand Tribunal the nation was in crisis. A powder keg had been created ready to explode at any time. In order not to start a civil war the Grand Tribunal declared a vote of no confidence against the emperor on October 25, 2010. According to the constitution the emperor had no other choice than to accept the decision of the Grand Assembly, but he did not. So a spark was created which ignited the powder keg and the Autumn Revolution began on October 25, 2010. The Grand Assembly seized all accounts linked to the nation as the Security and Information Bureau performed what would be known as Operation: Lock and Block. During this operation all accounts linked to Emperor Maurya was either deleted or blocked from gaining access to Ashoki databases. The emperor was furious and soon began a campaign to regain his throne. However, due to diplomatic relations and SIB involvement he did not manage to rally any support. After a short period of the emperor faded away and on November 14, 2010 the Autumn Revolution was declared over.

As of January 21, 2011 Ashoka declared that their intentions was to take a step back from micronational politics until a legitimate claim of land and sovereignty could be presented. This, along with stricter guidelines regarding diplomatic relations with other micronations, was made in a attempt to radiate a more serious pathos. The government however continued searching for ways to implement the idea of the Exilarchy of Ashoka into reality as well as their national programs. They still observed the actions of their fellow micronation but with a more passive approach.
Politics
Government
The Exilarchy of Ashoka is governed by a Tribunal called the Grand Tribunal. This tribunal consists of up to 8 tribunes all representing a department that in turn is broken down into several bureaus. The head of the Grand Tribunal is the Prime Tribune. He or she reserves the right to veto any decision made by the tribunals. However, according to the Constitution of Exilarchy of Ashoka the Prime Tribune may be voted out of office by a consensus decision by all Grand Tribunes.
Military
Being a nation based on Buddhist ideas and philosophies the nation do not find a need to keep a offensive military presence. The nations, it's citizens and it's leaders are however under the protection of the Security and Information Bureau.
Police and Law enforcement
The law enforcement agency of the Exilarchy of Ashoka is called the Security and Information Bureau. The Security and Information Bureau (also known as SIB) serves as both a federal criminal investigative body and as both a internal and external intelligence agency. The SIB also engages in covert activities at the request of the Grand Tribunal of the Exilarchy of Ashoka.
Geography
Manaan
The Exilarchy of Ashoka claims a spot located off the south coast of Sweden at Latitude 55° 2'46.77"N and Longitude 13°24'33.84"O. A floating city is planned to be constructed there in the future. The city will be called Manaan after the floating city in the Star Wars universe.
Dogger Bank
The Exilarchy of Ashoka claims the Dogger Bank for future development. Dogger Bank is a large sandbank in a shallow area of the North Sea about 100 km (62 mi) off the east coast of England. It extends over approximately 17,600 km2 (6,800 sq mi), with its maximum dimensions being about 260 km (162 mi) from north to south and 95 km (59 mi) from east to west. The water depth ranges from 15 to 36 metres (from 49 to 118 feet), about 20 metres (66 ft) shallower than the surrounding sea. It is a productive fishing bank.
Society and Culture
Diaspora and Exilarchy
Ashoka is a nation in Diaspora, meaning its citizens are spread out all over the planet. With no inhabitable land to claim as their own since the disaster that struck their ecosystem in 2010 they cling to the principals and ideas of their nation instead of its soil. It is however one of the main goals of the Grand Tribunal to once more stand on soil that they can call their own.
Religion
The Exilarchy of Ashoka is a Buddhist state based on the views of the Buddha and the laws of the Dharma. These views penetrates all aspects of its society. Buddhist quotes can be found in most documents released by the Grand Tribunal, even in the Declaration of Ashoki Independence and of course in the Dharma Act.
Humanitarian Care
As a nation based on Buddhist ideas the Ashoki government sees it as their duty to aid those in need. Be it by financial, material or other aid, the Department of Compassion along with the Department of Diplomacy are always ready to act if disaster strikes and offer neutral humanitarian care. So far financial aid has been given to Pakistan due to their massive flooding in 2010 through the Red Cross.

Lion's Roar Network (sometimes simply referred to as the Roar) is the national news and broadcasting network of Exilarchy of Ashoka providing its citizens with news and entertainment. It focuses on news form both inside and outside the borders of the nation although the international news mainly focuses on Buddhist news and major events. The network features both newspapers, magazines and radio shows.
