Name etymology

First Name

Ezekiel is a masculine Hebrew language name, meaning "God's Strength." It can be used as both a given name and a surname. Ezekiel Ensor was named after the Hebrew prophet of the Old Testament, who is thought to be the 6th-century BCE author of the Book of Ezekiel, which reveals prophecies regarding the destruction of Jerusalem and the restoration to the land of Israel.

Middle Name

Old English storm "violent disturbance of the atmosphere, tempest; onrush, attack, tumult; disturbance," from the Proto-Germanic sturmaz "storm." Inspired by the X-Men character Storm, a female mutant superhero whose powers can control the weather and atmosphere.

Last Name

Ensor (US: /ˈɛnzər/ (About this sound (listen))) is a habitational name derived from the name of the village of Edensor, and was originally written as Edensor. Over time, by unknown means, it shifted to the modern spelling.

Ancestry

Ezekiel's ancestry is nearly entirely Anglo-Irish, with influences from his maternal grandmother of Germans and Swedish traits. Though little is known on his father's ancestry, it is known to be primarily of Irish influence. Ezekiel Ensor is descended from the Gorsuch family. The only confirmed notable ancestor with the surname is Edward Gorsuch, known for being the perpetrator of the 1851 Christiana Riot. Edward Gorsuch is Ezekiel Ensor's fourth great uncle, as Edward was rightfully murdered before he could have children. It is known that the same Gorsuches colonized the Province of Maryland in 1632, alongside Cecil Calvert.

Sometime between 1640 and 1665, Ezekiel's 11th great-grandfather George Ensor (no relation to George Ensor) immigrated to the Province of Maryland from Edensor, Derbyshire, England with his son, Edward Robinson Ensor. He left behind his wife, Jane Saunders.
