Earl Finn was a Member of Parliament in the Commonwealth of Essexia. Earl Finn is the Earl of Greater Danbury, and controls around 11 acres of land in Hawarden.

On the 23rd of December 2021, Finn joined the Lower Council of Essexia.

History

He was hired as Warden of the Royal Bank for the RBE in July 2018, by, the then, King Terry.

On 25 July 2018 he founded the Liberal Socialist and Cooperative Party a centre-left social democratic party aiming to make Essexia a better place for the many and not the few, he was also appointed Senator for the Chelmer constituency in the, then, Essexian Senate. An interest has also been expressed in colonising Antarctica in the name of Essexia. On September 19, 2018, he became the leader of the Commonwealth of Essexia after the Treaty of Chelmsford established the Liberal Socialists as the ruling party, and helped re-establish the Essexian monarchy after the September Coup.

On December 31, 2018, Earl Finn resigned as Prime Minister of the Commonwealth due to the passing of the Monarchical Powers Act on the same day that granted the monarch almost absolute power with an advisory Parliament, however the Liberal Socialists remained in power, with an advisory Parliament, with Lord Chris assuming the role of First Minister on 1 January 2019. Following his resignation, in March 2019 Earl Finn assumed the role again, after Lord Chris was forced out after Chris upset the monarch.

Earl Finn left office for the second time on the 27th of May 2019, after announcing he would do so on the 24th. On the afternoon of the 26th, Lord Matthew, leader of the Royalist Party, announced that Finn's successor would be Lord Jamie.

Since the 20th of June, Finn has been a member of the Discord of the Fifth Aenderian Republic as a private citizen of Essexia. Slightly less than a month later, on the 14 July 2019, Finn's request for Aenderian citizenship was approved. Making him one of only two Essexians to hold dual micronational citizenship at that time.

Finn once again became First Minister of Essexia on the 5th of January 2020, following the events of the Grey Weekend. A vote of no confidence in the Earl as First Minister by the Giraffe Concordat forced him to resign on the 14th February, leaving Second Minister Lord Jamie to become acting First Minister until Emperor Terry allowed Earl Jack to form a government on the 17th.

Politics

Hawarden Ministry

Earl Finn lead Essexia though, what was in theory, the most democratic time in Essexia as, even though the members of Parliament were appointed not elected, the Parliament had significantly more power than it does today, with the Parliament and the monarch being equals. Earl Finn's tenure as Prime Minister started with the September Coup, where he hoped to serve as guardian of the new Essexian Democracy. To try and achieve a stable democracy Earl Finn allied himself with the Royalist Party in Parliament to secure a majority. It is believed by some that the Royalists, under Lord Matthew, used the LSC to appear more democratic to the people, however this remains unconfirmed. Earl Finn's first term as Prime Minister is seen as success until the last day, where the Monarchical Powers Act 2018 was passed, where Earl Finn resigned from Prime Ministership in protest, as it undid much of the work done after the September Coup to increase in Parliamentary power.

Political Commonwealth I

Even though Earl Finn's Liberal Socialists were part of the Parliamentary Coalition with the Royalists, Earl Finn acted as a member of the opposition in this time, often voting against the government, lead by the LSC's own Lord Chris as First Minister. Although he did vote with the government in passing the Essexian Constitution of January 2019.

Political Commonwealth II

Lord Chris upset the monarch and due to the Monarchical Powers Act removed Chris from the role of First Minister, the King turned to Earl Finn become First Minister and he accepted. Throughout Earl Finn's second term as First Minister, it was clear that he was just the democratic figure head to the Royalist government and even as First Minister he would routinely vote against government bills as he was often bypassed in the decision making process. Eventually, it was agreed that Earl Finn would step down as First Minister on the 16th of June 2019. On the 24th of May Lord Matthew instructed Earl Finn that he would resign as First Minister now or be forced out, eventually they agreed Finn would go without a fight at 00:00 on the 27th of May 2019, and the Royalists would vote for any bills he proposed as First Minister. He proposed two bills as First Minister, the first being the Economic Regulations Act 2019, and the second being the Hawarden Reforms (which consisted of a series of acts and intended to reform the Parliament to become more democratic and fair). These bills were passed and rejected respectively, although the first was later ratified under the Jamie Ministry.

Opposition under Lord Jamie

Earl Finn's LSC originally started as the 3rd party under the Jamie Ministry, and although in opposition during the Danbury Conference he was a one of the two day members who reviewed the constitution. Earl Finn has worked with the government to pass the bills agreed on at the Danbury Conference but has stated that "being in opposition is far better than being Matthew's puppet". Earl Finn was the primary opposition to Jamie's actions during the the 27th of May Events.

The 2019 Essexian Election

Even though the LSC did not win the 2019 Essexian general election he managed to secure his party as the official opposition in Essexia. Increasing their seats in parliament by 2 after the day was over, so the LSC had 3 seats in parliament. After the election LSC membership also greatly increased.

Continuing opposition under Jamie

The Jamie Ministry came to a crashing end during the 'Black Weekend, where the Old Royalist element of the Royalist plotted to call a vote of no confidence in Lord Jamie's First Ministership, it should be noted that a no confidence vote in Lord Jamie as First Minister would not cause a general election but instead force the ruling party to change their first minister. Both the New Royalists and the Old Royalist factions approached the LSC leader, Earl Finn of Hawarden, to get LSC support. Earl Finn was initially hesitant to support either side, as he saw getting rid of Jamie would make someone less sympathetic to the LSC's desires in power, but he also still remembered Lord Jamie's actions during the crisis of May 26. Earl Finn eventually told the Old Royalists he would vote for no confidence in the government, that would lead to a general election, but not no confidence in Lord Jamie's First Ministership. The Old Royalists rejected his proposal so in retaliation he told Lord Jamie who was plotting against him. When Lord Matthew found out about it he resigned from the Royalists and the parliament creating, this was followed by multiple Royalists resigning from the party with only the 4 New Royalist Lords remaining part of the party, for the Royalists to rule a majority government they would require the support of the LSC, who were hesitant to form a coalition with Lord Jamie, as historically the LSC had been bullied into submission by the Royalists in previous coalitions and a coalition did not have the clear support of the Liberal Socialist and Cooperative Party, leading to there being no clear first party in the parliament. So after much turmoil, Lord Jamie resigned from his position as First Minister just before Emperor Terry declared martial law making Crown Minister Jacob, Lord Commissar of Essexia.

Opposition to Martial Law

The LSC were the main party opposed to martial law as Lord Jacob was a traditionalist and it was unclear whether or not Lord Jacob would simply scrap the parliament and restore the absolute monarchy that existed prior to the September Coup. The Liberal Socialists instead proposed that Lord Jack head the military government, however this was strongly against the wishes of the majority of the Old Guard.

The military regime was a significant part of the policy motivation during the writing of the LSC party manifesto, and thus the LSC manifesto focuses on significantly limiting the power of the military during peacetime and the monarchy, as well as making it harder to declare martial law.

Opposition under the Jacob Ministry

The parliament was restored by Emperor Terry after 8 days of martial law and the LSC returned to parliament with one fewer seat than they left, with newly created Old Guard Party having a plurality of seats with 5 of the 11 seats. The LSC were relegated to a secondary opposition after the Emperor's reinstatement of parliament, although they have less Lords than the Royalists, they are seen as a more credible opposition. He has also supported the idea of forming an alliance with the New Royalists, however would not do so without the support of the LSC.

Rhino Administration

Following the pragmatic creation of the Rhino Alliance, due to the Grey Weekend, the membership of the alliance chose Earl Finn as leader of the organisation as he was seen as the most experienced option to lead Essexia after the minor crisis. He subsequently confirmed as First Minister on the 5th of January 2020. This began his third term in the role. However, this term came to a dramatic end after only 40 days, the Giraffe Concordat held a successful vote of no confidence, turning Lord Jamie into acting First Minister. He was then made Minister of the Interior by Lord Jamie, who then called a general election.

Opposition to the Giraffe Interim Administration

On 17 February 2020, Finn's tenure as First Minister officially came to an end with Emperor Terry appointing Earl Jack as First Minister pushing the LSC back into opposition. Finn stated that "despite my disappointment I have faith that the people of Essexia will choose democracy over dictatorship on March 1st". Earl Jack has stated in response that "If the Essexian people were to vote for democracy, [Earl Finn] should also expect to lose."

Giraffe Ministry

Following Lord Jamie's split from the Rhino Alliance to the Giraffe Concordat, and Lord Matthew's resignation as Foreign Minister after nearly a year of service, Earl Finn was made the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the 26th March 2020. Although lacking the extensive experience that Lord Matthew had gained, Finn has made great strides in understanding and interacting with the micronational community.

Personal life

Earl Finn is not known for having a great personal life, and his social life is described by others as "not great". Although as of recent, it has been said to be improving.

Achievements

The Rt. Hon. Earl Finn designed the public Essexian Yen banknotes, helped create the RBE, and provides assistance to Emperor Terry and Lord Jack. He also designed the coat of arms of Essexia as well as the coat of arms for Emperor Terry. On the 10th of October 2018, Earl Finn founded Essexian Aeronautical and Space Technologies Laboratories (EAST), a science corporation with the objective of space exploration. Later that month on the 25th of October 2018 he founded the FAR Network.
Additionally, he has been the First Minister of the Commonwealth of Essexia for three terms (serving as Essexia's only Prime Minister in his first term). Earl Finn designed the logo and coat of arms of the Royal Bank of Essexia on the 31st of May 2019. On 28 July 2019, 1 am BST, Earl Finn served as judge of the Aenderian case "The Government of Aenderia, et al. v Calvin White". He drew criticism from the defence for refusing to state Aenderia had no authority over to prosecute Mr White as in the eyes of the court Auvenum, where the offences took place, had illegally seceded from Aenderia. For his work as First Minister of Essexia and for service to Essexia he was awarded the Most Noble Order of the Commonwealth of Essexia (KG) by Lord Matthew, on 29 May 2019[1] On 2 May 2020 Earl Finn was appointed to the Order of William I at the rank Knight Cross of the Order.[2]

Personality

Earl Finn is well versed in nothing in particular, he is known for his interest in former industrial areas, his love for the American state of Michigan, and enjoyment of Lego. He is also respected as a very British citizen.
