The First Anoushkaa Patranabish ministry (Hindi: प्रथम अनुष्का पत्रनाबिश मंत्रीमंडल) was formed on 3 March 2020 following the resignation of Tanishkaa Patranabish on 3 March 2020, just before the general election. The resignation was due to the norm of the Election Commission that the incumbent government shall step down prior to the elections in order to hold free and fair elections. Accordingly the President appointed Anoushkaa Patranabish who was serving as Deputy Prime Minister in the previous government to be the Prime Minister and lead the caretaker ministry.
Background
Prior to the general election, the Election Commission announced that the serving government was needed to step down from office a month before the general election to ensure free and fair election. Accordingly, Tanishkaa Patranabish and her council of ministers submitted their resignation to the President Dhrubajyoti Roy on 3 March 2020. Prior to her resignation as prime minister, Tanishkaa Patranabish had announced that her deputy prime minister Anoushkaa Patranabish would be nominated to serve as the caretaker prime minister.
Accordingly, on 3 March 2020, Anoushkaa Patranabish was appointed as the caretaker prime minister by the President and she remained in office until the re-election and subsequent re-appointment of Tanishkaa Patranabish as the prime minister on 22 March 2020.
Composition
The caretaker council of ministers headed by Prime Minister Anoushkaa Patranabish comprised of the prime minister herself and ten other ministers. Ankurjyoti Thakuria was initially appointed as the deputy prime minister but was later replaced by Bishnu Chetry. Of the cabinet ministers included Anirban Phatowali, Rajdeep Deka, Bishakha Das, Arnab Deka and Sampriti Paul. Three ministers of state were appointed which included Arpan Deka, Tusharjit Deka and Pallavi Rai.
