Rino Island's international policy is aimed at promoting micronation and its economy and development. This has been carried out with the objective of insertion in serious micronational organizations of world relevance. In this way, Rino Island is a member of the United Micronations (2015), Micronational Broadcasting Union (2015), Central American and Caribbean Micronations Organization (associate member since 2015), the Conference of Santiago (2020), the Spanish Language Micronations Community (2020), and is the founder of the Pacific Micronations Mancommunity (2020). The international press has described Rino Island as a leading micronation in diplomatic development.
The international press has highlighted Rino Island for supporting the State of Palestine, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and the restoration of Spain's sovereignty over Gibraltar.[1][2]
Rino Island since January 1, 2020, only establishes diplomatic relations with entities that demonstrate: 1) at least one continuous year of verifiable existence; 2) solidity in your project; 3) that do not have aims, propaganda or governments of a racist, totalitarian nature, or contrary to human rights. The first requirement (one year of existence) will be exempted from those micronations that demonstrate seriousness and relevance that make it presume that their existence will be lasting over time. Likewise, diplomatic relations with entities that carry out simulationism, understood as State modelling, are not adopted if their activities are fanciful and not serious. Since 2018 the Minister of Foreign Affairs has been Anastasio López.
Diplomacy
Some of the most important events of the diplomatic policy of Rino Island are the following:
w:Argentina: On April 25, 2020, the government of Rino Island officially sent a protest note to the Argentine Republic. The reason was to criticize President Fernández of Argentina for meeting in videoconference with the Chilean opposition, along with calling it to retake power in Chile. It was expressly stated that Fernández "carries out his action from a government building, during working hours; using the resources of the Argentine people to intervene according to his personal whim in the political organization of the Republic of Chile." [4]
w:Armenia: The Armenian embassy in Spain thanks privately, and via social networks, President Marco Antonio Rino, for his letter in defense of the people of Armenia and Artsakh, in the context of the 2020 war. The letter was published in the digital medium "Hispanidad". [5]
w:Bolivia: In November 2019, the Republic of Rino Island expressed its support for the change of government in Bolivia, after the resignation of Evo Morales, through a public statement of condemnation. [6]
w:Chile: In 2017, the Chilean presidential candidate Eduardo Artés was interviewed for Rino Island. Although he was not elected, it is the first interview between a macro-national presidential candidate and a micronation. [7][8][9]"Thank you very much for your excellent and very accurate note on our 51st anniversary. It is a long life of sacrifice, dedication and conscience. With the desire that your independence and freedom be consolidated, our affections." Jesus Hermoso (2021) member of the International Commission and the National Political Committee of the Red Flag party (Venezuela).w:Equatorial Guinea: On February 14, 2020, the government of Rino Island sent a statement of support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Equatorial Guinea, repudiating the French Republic for condemning the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue in a trial without any guarantee and in his absence. [10] The Republic of Rino Island has repeatedly backed Equatorial Guinea against the British Empire, and against France. [11]We have especially endorsed the diplomatic immunity and human rights of Vice President Obiang Nguema. [12] We also express our condolences for the Bata tragedy of 2021. [13]
w:Vanuatu: In January 2021 a letter from President Rino addressed to the leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum, and Chile and Perú was published by the Vanuatu Daily Post Vanuatu's leading written journal. [14]
Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic: In 2019, the President of the Republic Marco Antonio Rino interviewed the Saharawi ambassador in Mexico, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Mulay Ali Hamadi, informing him of Rino Island's support for full Sahrawi independence.[15]Rino Island has been promoting the independence and sovereign rights of the Saharawi people since 2019.
Glacier Republic: Rino Island does not consider the so-called "Glacier Republic" to be a micronation, but rather a propaganda tool for Greenpeace. Its only objective in practice is to affect the sovereignty of the Chilean people, without any environmental benefit to date.
w:Venezuela: In January 2021, official congratulations were sent to the Venezuelan opposition's "Red Flag" Political Party.[16] Mr. Jesús Hermoso, a prominent member of the Red Flag party of Venezuela, and a member of the International Commission of that party expressed his gratitude to the Russian-Dutch press for the coverage of his 51st anniversary, and the congratulations sent by HE President Marco Antonio Rino.[17]
Policy
The Rino Island Ministry of Defense and Foreign Relations is the State Ministry in charge of planning, directing, coordinating, executing, controlling and reporting foreign policy formulated by the President of the Republic. It is in charge of controlling the various embassies, offices and consulates of our country in the world. The current minister is Mr. Anastasio López.
The international policy of Rino Island aims both to spread the existence of our territory and to promote the economy and national development; thus we seek to overcome our current situation of little presence in international forums, which also require large amounts of money to participate. However, this does not detract from the fact that we are fully organized according to law, that is, a country with full rights.
Since 2017, Rino Island has adopted a realistic micronational policy, favoring diplomatic relations with micronations that demonstrate seriousness and stability. Likewise, the government has achieved recognition from governments in exile, such as the Kingdom of Araucanía and Patagonia, and make contacts with the embassy in Mexico of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
Rino Island firmly follows the principles of the free self-determination of peoples and supports micronations and states of Hispanic and Lusophone heritage in the world. In the latter case, Rino Island has expressed its support for the cause of Sahrawi independence. Rino Island has also publicly expressed its support for the Equatorial Guinean government against French interference in its policy. The government also issued public statements against the Argentine government for accusing actions that were considered interventionism in Chilean politics.
Support has also been given to Christian governments. Thus Rino Island publicly supported Armenia and Artsakh in the 2020 Caucasus war. President Marco Antonio Rino published a letter in Spanish media openly condemning the dictator of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which meant to him the congratulations of the Armenian embassy privately and via Facebook.
Anti-imperialism is a relevant point of Rino Island's foreign policy, refusing to recognize projects that openly practice racial discrimination, or that apologize for colonialism.
Intermicronational Relations
Rino Island currently maintains treaties of mutual recognition with the following micronations:
