Founding Fathers of Essexia
The Founding Fathers of the Commonwealth of Essexia were the group of people who signed the Constitution of Essexia, these people were the first members of the Parliament of Essexia many of whom led the push for a more powerful Senate, and several were members of the short-lived Federation of Essexia. These people were then, some of whom still are, the most prominent people of Essexian society, and many of them still play key roles in the government to this day.
Prior to the ratification of the Constitution of Essexia, the Nation had been through significant turmoil, with Lord Jack and the NatCon party leading a coup against Emperor Terry due to Terry making significant tyrannical rulings against the Parliament. The Conservative coup was successful and established the short-lived Federation of Essexia, with Lord Jack's National Conservatives assuming power of the new State. After a three days, the Federal Senate had agreed to end the Civil War. The Senate agreed to end the war and Republic rule, and Emperor Terry resumed the Kingship albeit with much less power. The Federation, although short-lived, set the foundation for the much more democratic Commonwealth of Essexia.
The rules given to Emperor Terry by the Transition Committee granted the Parliament far greater power and whilst Emperor Terry retained some legislative power, most decisions made by the Emperor could be overturned by a two-thirds majority vote in the Parliament. The aftermath saw the creation of the role of First Minister of Essexia and was given to Earl Finn with the Liberal Socialists in coalition with the Royalists, and Lord Jack's National Conservatives becoming the official Opposition in parliament.
Before the Constitution was complete the Royalists passed the Monarchical Powers Act 2018, which lead to Earl Finn's resignation as First Minister in protest and Lord Chris becoming First Minister of Essexia. The act repealed many of the rules set by the Transition Committee, and saw great power given back to the Emperor.
Furthermore, the Senate of the Federation, which had replaced the Parliament of the Queendom of Essexia, was essentially identical to the new Parliament of the Commonwealth of Essexia in terms of Members of Parliament. By the 10th January 2019, Essexia had started as a somewhat-constitutionally bound Monarchy (The Queendom of Essexia), before becoming a Federal Republic with a President (Federation of Essexia), and then finally converting to a Constitutional Monarchy and Democracy (The Commonwealth of Essexia). Essexia now has a very diverse political field, with a vast range of parties from left to right, up and down.
The task of writing the Constitution of Essexia was largely given to, the Royalist, Lord Matthew and, the coup leader, Lord Jack, with other founding fathers adding their two cent and doing minor work on the Constitution.
Lord Matthew and Jack worked on the Constitution for many months until the final draft was finished and eventually all the remained was ratification. Ratification required all the founding fathers to sign as well as a unanimous pass in Parliament and finally Royal approval. This long process came to an end on 7 January 2019, when the Constitution got royal assent so it came into effect.
The constitution was not without its controversies, however. One significant example of this is Article II Section 8 of the Constitution which states;
If a Senator leaves his party, the Senator loses his seat and a by-election is called
This section has been critiqued by the Liberal Socialists as it makes senators "puppets of their party not individuals who should be making the right call" as they have a constant threat of being kicked out the party, and therefore losing their seat if they do not vote for what their party wants. However others argue that since Senators are given their seats by their party leader they didnt get voted in themselves, the party did, the Senator losing their seat if they leave is completely fair.
