The House of Burgardt-Cabote is the reigning house of the Kingdom of Sayville, the Kingdom of Cheskgariya, and the Kingdom of Great River. It is an agnatic cadet branch of the House of Burgardt and the senior cognatic branch of the House of Cabote.

History

The House of Burgardt-Cabote was de facto established in 1998 through the marriage of Steven Burgardt – the youngest child of Charles Julius Burgardt, who headed the House of Burgardt at the time – and Lydia Cabote, the eldest child of (and heir apparent to) Artemio Cabote, head of the House of Cabote. Steven and Lydia had two children, and through their eldest child (Charles Joseph Burgardt), the Burgardt-Cabotes became the reigning house of the Kingdom of Sayville (2018), the Kingdom of Cheskgariya (2021), and the Kingdom of Great River (2021). To solidify his family's status, Charles issued a decree in 2020 to formally establish the House of Burgardt-Cabote.[1] The following year, Charles promulgated a house law – known as the "Family Law of the House of Burgardt-Cabote" – to regulate succession, dynastic titles, coats of arms, and honors.[2]

German origins

As an agnatic cadet branch of the House of Burgardt through Steven Burgardt, all members of the House of Burgardt-Cabote trace direct patrilineal descent to Karl Burgardt, the progenitor of the present-day Burgardt family and the first documented head of the House of Burgardt. Karl was born in 1852 in Dortmund, Germany. His descendants continued to live in Germany until the early twentieth century when Hellmuth Burgardt (Karl's only child and successor as head of the family) emigrated to New York City. In turn, Hellmuth's only child (Charles Julius Burgardt) moved to Long Island, where the family remains to this day.

Ilocano and Filipino origins

Through Lydia Burgardt, the House of Burgardt-Cabote is the senior cognatic branch of the House of Cabote. As a result, her eldest child, Charles Joseph Burgardt, is second in the line of succession to the headship of that house. Members of the House of Burgardt-Cabote can trace cognatic descent to Pedro Cabote, Artemio's father and the first head of the House of Cabote. The Cabotes historically spoke Ilocano, but some descendants of Artemio Cabote abandoned the language in favor of Filipino, while others – specifically, members of the House of Burgardt-Cabote – only speak English.

Succession

According to dynastic law, succession to the headship of the House of Burgardt-Cabote is determined by absolute primogeniture. All biological descendants of Prince Steven and Princess Lydia of Burgardt-Cabote are included in the line of succession. Unique among royal and noble houses, children born in or out of wedlock have equal succession rights. The current Head of the House is King Charles, 1st Prince of Burgardt-Cabote. His younger brother, Crown Prince Adam, Hereditary Prince of Burgardt-Cabote, is heir presumptive to the House's dynastic titles and to the thrones of Sayville and Great River.[a]

Notes
  1. Since Cheskgariya is an elective monarchy, Adam is not currently in line to accede to its throne.
  2. Although the Burgardt-Cabotes hold a variety of royal and noble titles, only dynastic titles directly associated with the House are used here.
