The House of Lords includes Three different types of members: the Lords in Waiting, consisting of the most senior of House of Lords, and the Lords Temporal, consisting mainly of life peers or hereditary peers, appointed by the Sovereign. Hereditary peers sitting either by virtue of holding a royal office, o the House of Lords also performs a judicial role through the Law Lords. While the House of Ovens has a defined number of seats membership, the number of members in the House of Lords is not fixed.

The Role Of The House of Lords

Matters the House of Lords Deals with

  1. It can form Committees and hold meetings to Give advice to the monarch
  2. It may have the sole power to ratify treaties for Crown approval.
  3. It Is an Appeal court
  4. It may have the sole power to try impeachments against officials of the executive, following enabling resolutions passed by Both Houses of Parliament by Vote and Consent of the Monarch.
  5. It may give advice and consent to some executive decisions (e.g. appointments of Deputy cabinet ministers, judges or ambassadors).
  6. It may have specific powers is the formulating of laws.

Rules of the House of Lords

  • The Leader of the House of Lords determines to the agenda of the meeting. Members may add business and bills to the floor of the Council at least two days before the Sitting of House. To this end, they deliver their proposal to the Minister.
  • The announcement of The House of Lords Sitting shall state at least the place, date, time and agenda of the sitting and include and list of Bill proposals to be presented. The Sitting agenda must be sufficiently clear. Each item on the Sitting agenda shall be made available to all Members of The Parliament of the Commonwealth of Marie Byrd Land
  • The Lord Speaker is the presiding officer of the House of Lords in the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Marie Byrd Land. The office is analogous to the Llywydd/President of the House of Ovens: the Lord Speaker is elected by the members of the House of Lords and is expected to be politically impartial. The main functions of the Lord Speaker are to take the chair in debates held in the chamber of The House of Lords of The Commonwealth of Marie Byrd Land, to advise the House Of Lords on procedural rules, its members, to speak for House of Lords on ceremonial occasions, and to represent the House of Lords as its ambassador in The Commonwealth of Marie Byrd Land.
