Similar to RIS 002, IMSO 1 is a system for encoding two and three letter codes for micronations (IMSO 1-1) and their administrative regions (IMSO 1-2), based on ISO 3166. IMSO 1 is an independent project maintained by the Intermicronational Organization for Standardization. Similar to ISO 3166, but unlike RIS 002, a change in the name of the nation does indeed warrant a code change. IMSO 1 has 676 unique two-letter codes, 17,576 unique three-letter codes, and 308,915,776 unique combinations of three-letter nation codes coupled with three-letter region codes.

IMSO 1 aims to be a directory with occasional community input rather than a standard system which a nation has to formally adopt. Nations looking to be listed must contact the IMSO to request their nation's alpha-2 and alpha-3 codes.
