The Imperial State of Laburia, commonly known as Laburia, is a self-declared state commonly known as a micronation in Melbourne, Australia. First founded in early 2020 as a practical joke, it is an absolute monarchy ruled by an emperor with an imperial council purely as an advisory body.

Etymology

Laburia was partially derived from the Emperor's old school, which started with "Labu" and was adjusted to form the word "Laburia". At the time of its founding it was called the Republic of Laburium, but a royalist coup swiftly brought about the downfall of the democratic government.

History

Laburia was initially founded by two friends in early 2020, and was at first a republic, albeit one without elections or parties, save for the People's Council, the only party permitted to take part in elections. As time went on reform allowed other parties to emerge, one being the Royal Promotion Party (RPP).

Royalist Coup

In July 2020, the RPP formed its own standing army, the Party Security Force (PSF). They were relatively unopposed as Laburia at the time had no standing army. The PSF, three members strong, began to evolve into an independent force, and gained much power within the republic and to an extent the RPP.
