The January 2023 Georgienstinian congressional election was held on 3–4 January 2023.

It resulted in a Georgienstine First victory, with the party keeping its majority and seeing minor gains in seats, but minor losses in the popular vote. Vision Georgienstine saw minor gains in seats, but major losses in the popular vote. Centre Georgienstine won one seat, which was a surprise, as the media had overestimated their support.

Background

The November 2022 Georgienstinian congressional election resulted in Georgienstine First remaining as the majority party and seeing minor gains. The Vision Georgienstine alliance was second and saw major gains, seeing their best results since the January 2022 Georgienstinian congressional election.

On 8 November 2022, Matthew Tonna won the speaker election receiving 9 votes, to Ben Olson's 7. All congresspeople voted in the election.

On 27 November 2022, Andrew Perdomo was suspended and later expelled from Georgienstine First and left the Majority Caucus to join the Minority Caucus after he said that he'd support Nicolas Caiazzo over Raphaël Olivier in the 2023 presidential election.

On 15 December 2022, Addison O'Halloran was suspended from the Left Bloc for announcing her support for the state of Salem's 8-hour-long illegal secession from Georgienstine. She joined the Labour-Democratic Party afterwards.

On 22 December 2022, Andrew Perdomo formed the Reform Party.

On 29 December 2022, Emerson Lee announced his permanent departure from Georgienstine due to issues outside of micronationalism. His announcement was met with near-universal well wishes from public figures; many of them making statements reflecting upon his time in Georgienstine and positive impact within it, and a proposal was made to name the Salem-Raphaelistan merger state after him.

Electoral system and organization

The National Congress is composed of 16 seats elected by proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency, with a legal threshold of 1 full seat (6.25%), and residuals assigned by the D’Hondt method.
