Kersika, occasionally referred to as the City of Kersika, is the capital city of the Alsann Republic. It is Alsann’s equal-largest city by residents and its largest by citizens. It was founded on 23 August 2022, when the Second Republic reforms were introduced to the Concordian Republic. It is currently governed by the Member for Kersika in the Federal Council, Mackenzie Arra.

The city of Kersika resides on the land of the Whadjuk people, by whom it was looked after for tens of thousands of years. Kersika is Alsann's largest cultural centre. With a number of historic and unique celebrations, it is also a major sports hub, holding the home ground of Kersika City FC at Buffalo Oval and the headquarters of League One. Home to Kersika Academy and the ACMA, it is the seat of power for the Officer-General, and the physical meeting place of the Federal Council.

History

Concordian Republic

The City of Kersika was founded on 23 August 2022. It was a subdivision of Naverston District, and was capital of the Concordian Republic. It was introduced as part of the Second Republic reforms, which aimed to improve the Republic’s government by modelling it after the successful parts of Russellian nations during the Concordian Republic’s period of inactivity.

During the first Concordian Republic, Kersika was part of the New Concordia Federal District, which had the politics of Kersika within the borders of the Kersik Federal District. During the Russellian nations period, Kersika was known initially as New Aeonia City in the Crown Republic of Flinders, and later as Flinders Crown City until the Crown Republic's dissolution.

Kersika was preceded by the New Concordia Federal District, a city encompassing all of the modern-day Kersik Federal District. During this time, the area was witness to the Republic’s foundation, rise and eventual inactivity spiral. Following its foundation, the city witnessed the formation of new medals, concepts and areas, with prominent examples being the Concordian Service Medal, the three-person preferential voting system and the incorporation of Shetvik & St Alouarn.

Alsann Republic

On 8 September 2022, Kersika witnessed the creation of Alsann. It was one of Alsann's original territories, alongside the states of Aeonia and Flinders. Over the following days, it witnessed Alsann's planning and expansion. Eventually, on 23 September, Kersika formally left the Concordian Republic as the Alsann Proclamation was signed.

It bore witness to the Officer-General's various executive orders over the next few months. At some unknown time, the Naverston District was briefly dissolved, then reinstated and renamed as the Kersik Naverston Federal District then again to the Kersik Federal District, marking the only physical change to the Kersik region in its history.

In November 2022, when the first Alsane federal election was announced, Kersika initially polled in roughly equal support for all candidates in the approval voting system of Alsann. It later became the first region to conclude voting on December 2023, also the only region where unsuccessful candidate Jasmine Carroll won a majority vote.

Following the elections and their confirmation, Kersika (alongside Alsann) fell silent for a third of the year, missing the Alsann Republic's six-month anniversary. The absence was broken on 2 May 2023 when the Officer-General announced the Alsane Elections Office's declaration of the federal election alongside the announcement of the 2023 regional elections. Mackenzie Arra was one of only two candidates to run in the election and the only one to contest Kersika, resulting in a one year term extension to May 2024.

Government and military

The City of Kersika is governed solely by the elected Member for Kersika. Elected to the Federal Council by the Kersik people, that role was been filled by Mackenzie Arra since 23 September 2022. Kersika formerly participated in local Aeonian elections, however that ability was annulled after the separation of federal & state powers and later the formation of Aeonia into a republic with a single executive leading it.

Kersika is host to a variety of military & law forces. The local police force and military guard is the Capital Guard. The Guard is specifically responsible for the defence of Kersika and the Officer-General in addition to the regular duties of local police forces. Kersika is also the primary base of the Alsane Federal Police, which shares a significant number of officers with the Guard. The Federal Military is also responsible for the defence of Kersika, and maintains Fort Norman just outside the city walls for this purpose.

Geography

The geography of Kersika is not significantly variable. The city sits atop clay-rich soil in the Darling Range, nearby Banyowla and Ibisca. It sits on a number platforms of varying height to accomodate for the hill’s slope. These platforms may be susceptible to flooding, however, as seen in the 2021 Concordian Flood Crisis.

Kersika’s ecology consists of a variety of introduced species, with some of the most prominent being the Buffalo and Kikuyu grasses, prunus trees and Chinese elm. Thee are also multiple household pets within Kersika including a dog, a cat, three chickens, a canary and an unspecified number of fish. Native Australian animals occasionally visit, primarily bandicoots (quendas) and kangaroos. A large variety of birds visit or live in the city, including honeyeaters, finches, ravens, parrots and birds of prey. It also has a number of prominent Australian plants, including bottlebrushes and eucalypts.

Kersika is often mistaken for the Federal District of Kersika, as it is both located in and providing governance over the district. The primary difference is in Kersika's status as a 600 square metre walled city, whereas the 1500 square metre Federal District includes the areas outside those walls including Fort Norman.
