The Kingdom of Northern Islands (KNI), more commonly known as Northern Islands (NI), is a self-proclaimed sovereign state or micronation located mostly in the area of the Gulf of Bothnia in Northern Europe, with other land claims both in the Arctic and the Antarctic areas. Northern Islands is a federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy with King Nico I as the current head of state. Its population is 0, however it currently has 3 citizens. The capital is the Municipality of Kingsland which is also the largest and the only city of the Kingdom. Northern Islands has 2 official languages, Finnish and English. Northern Islands was established on 6 February 2020.
Etymology
The name of the Kingdom was coined by Nico Fors, and is made up of two words. The word "Northern" describes the main location of the country and the word "Islands" describes the form of land that the nation claims.
History
Kingdom of Northern Islands was founded on 06.02.2020 by the first monarch, King Nico I.
Politics and government
Northern Islands has a monarch as Head of State, and a congress that enacts the law. The Constitution of Northern Islands was adopted in 6 February 2020.
Executive power is vested in the Monarch. The reigning Monarch is the head of state and represents Northern Islands in its international relations. The Monarch may veto laws adopted by congress, propose new legislation, confer orders and royal titles, appoint governors, and with consultation of the senate, pardon, give amnesty, naturalize and restore citizenship.
The head of government (Prime Minister) is appointed by the senate. The other ministers are appointed by the Senate and approved by the Prime Minister.
Legislative power is vested in the bicameral Congress, made up of 1 to 16 members, this is an approximation and the real number of members may vary. It is formed of the National Assembly which is elected for maximum one-year terms, and the Senate which is formed of Governors, heads of other territories and the Monarch. Political Parties can get seats in the Congress either by getting a member elected to the National Assembly, or by having a Senator as a member.
