  1. Despite having the Vereinsmark as its official currency, most business in Pannonia are done in Brazilian Real; The Vereinsmark is used for government business and mostly in intermicronational transactions.

Pannonia, officially the Kingdom of Pannonia (Portuguese: Reino da Panônia) and informally called Pannonia, is a micronation completely surrounded by Northeast Brazil in South America. At an estimated 100 square meters and inhabited by its only 2 citizens, the Pannonian territory is made up of enclaves in the city of Floriano in the Brazilian state of Piauí. The capital and most populated city is the city of Arigrade, named after the founder of Pannonia and former King of Ameroslavia and Ruthenia, Ari I. The country's official language is the Portuguese.

Pannonia was formed after the dissolution of Ameroslavia on 4 August 2022, under request of its creator, that in turn was succeeded by the Provisional Government of the State of Slavs of America. Ameroslavia, once returned to its creator, was established as a republic, while the provisional government was under military ocupation headed by the last King of Ameroslavia and father of Oscar I, Emperor-King of Karnia-Ruthenia, Ari, Archduke of Karnia, the owner of Antonvilla, a former imperial property in Brazil transformed into a new micronation.

The Pannonian economic calculation is based on the country's copper stock, with Vereinsmark as official currency. Nonetheless the calculation hasn't yet be realized. Due to the absence of local micronations, allied to the fact that the government of Karnia-Ruthenia is heavily involved in the Pannonian government, the micronation can be considered a regional power in Northeast Brazil and a small power in the Brazilian sector, or a client state of Karnia-Ruthenia, since both countries are also considered sister nations, related also by blood. Originated as part of the Conference of Santiago Derivative Program, it's expected to join the Conference of Santiago, althought it's regarded as the most unstable government ever originated from this sector. Citizenship can be acquired only by online residency, limited to the Imperial Family of Karnia-Ruthenia.

Etymology

Julius Pokorny believed the name Pannonia is derived from Illyrian, from the Proto-Indo-European root *pen-, "swamp, water, wet" (cf. English fen, "marsh"; Hindi pani, "water").[1]

Pliny the Elder, in Natural History, places the eastern regions of the Hercynium jugum, the "Hercynian mountain chain", in Pannonia (present-day Hungary) and Dacia (present-day Romania).[2] He also gives us some dramaticised description[3] of its composition, in which the proximity of the forest trees causes competitive struggle among them (inter se rixantes). He mentions its gigantic oaks.[4] But even he—if the passage in question is not an interpolated marginal gloss—is subject to the legends of the gloomy forest. He mentions unusual birds, which have feathers that "shine like fires at night". Medieval bestiaries named these birds the Ercinee. The impenetrable nature of the Hercynia Silva hindered the last concerted Roman foray into the forest, by Drusus, during 12–9 BC: Florus asserts that Drusus invisum atque inaccessum in id tempus Hercynium saltum (Hercynia saltus, the "Hercynian ravine-land")[5] patefecit.[6]

This name was chosen to reflect the previous establishments of Pannonia - Ameroslavia and the Provisional Government of the State of Slavs of America - to have a micronation created for Americans with Slavic ancestry, but also bounding it to the region of Hungary that have the higher presence of West Slavs, a subdivision of the Slavs noted as having mixed with Germanics, Hungarians, Celts (particularly the Boii), Old Prussians, and the Pannonian Avars.[7] The West Slavs came under the influence of the Western Roman Empire (Latin) and of the Catholic Church.

History

Ameroslavia

Establishment

Proclamation of 01 October, by Lenart I of Ameroslavia.

The concept behind of Ameroslavia was developed by Lenart (or Lawerence) of Ameroslavia, its founder and first King, who previously created several micronations, including Lodomeria, that turned to be the origin of Ameroslavia.

Working in micronationalism on Twitter since August 2021, he made several projects, changing from monarchist to socialists projects that eventually, at one time, transformed the Lodomerian Democratic Republic ‎founded on 5 August 2021 into the Kingdom of Lodomeria at some point between its foundation and 26 September 2021‎, because on 30 September 2021, the then Kingdom of Lodomeria was transformed into the Empire of Ameroslavia, idealized as the micronation to unite all Americans with Slavic ancestry.

Despite its general acclaim in micronational community, the founder opted to leave the throne and pursued different goals, changing the project and establishing some micronations that eventually became the People's Republic of Rivala, a socialist micronation. The Ameroslavian throne became vacant by some moment after 3 November 2021 until the restoration attempt carried by the Karno-Ruthenian government.

Restoration

Using the Nomadic Micronation Theory, the original claim in the United State of America was abandoned and the restoration of Ameroslavia happened in Floriano, State of Piauí, Brazil. The new territory was formerly a foreign proprierty of the House of Götzö-Thomaz-Rocha called Antonvilla, that when returned to the imperial family after a time rented to the son of Archduke George of Karnia, was studied to be more than just a residence, but a micronation in its own right.

By 21 July 2022, Oscar I contacted the now President of the People's Republic of Rivala asking for his approval for the restoration and to give him guarantee that he would give him all the credit for all the work done by him. Without answer but being faithful to his proposal to the former emperor, Ameroslavia was to be restored as a kingdom and still considering Lenart as their former sovereign, using the heraldry work made by him with some adaptations and preserving his credits on it and even naming the capital as Lenartgrad. Also, an alternative name was thought in case the former ruler ask for changes.

Restored under the auspices of the Derivatist Program of the Conference of Santiago, the micronation had its crown offered to Ari, Archduke of Karnia, former King of Ruthenia and father of Oscar I, who accepted the crown on behalf of his father and was the one behind the initiative to restore Ameroslavia and the offering a crown for his father. In return, Oscar I eventually dropped his rights to succeed in the New Southern Rhine and Pommerland, becoming the Crown Prince of Ameroslavia.

Approval of Lenart I, 28 July 2022.

However, the legitimacy of the government was still in question. From the first contact in 21 July until the first hours of 28 July, the reign of Ari I could be challenged by his predecessor, but his rule was legitimized by the former king through a message sent to Oscar I, in which not only Lenart I approved the succession, but also wished good luck to the new government to "take the name [Ameroslavia] further than I have and provide greater glory to it".

Dissolution

On 4 July 2022, the Government of Rivalia contacted the Government of Karnia-Ruthenia showing interest to renegotiate the terms of the concession made over not only the name Ameroslavia, but also for the system of government, suggesting the disestablishment of the monarchy in favor of a republic. Understanding the situation of the founder of Ameroslavia and reaching a friendly agreement,[8] the imperial government decided to maintain the monarchy, but perform changes in Ameroslavia, officially dissolving it and creating it in its place the Provisional Government of the State of Slavs of America.

Provisional Government

From 5 August to 13 August 2022, the Government of the People's Republic of Rivalia formed along the original institutions of the previous Monarchy of Ameroslavia to establish the Ameroslav Provisional Government, while the Karno-Ruthenian backed regime established the Provisional Government of the State of Slavs of America.

By 13 August 2022, Ameroslavia proper was reorganized into the Ameroslav People's Republic, a socialist republic, much influenced by former socialist phase in Ameroslavia and the whole existence of Rivalia, with the former king Lennart as the People Secretary.[9] Meanwhile, since 6 August the Provisional Government headed by Ari I gathered in Antonvilla considered the establishment of Pannonia as an alternative to replace Ameroslavia, but only on 13 August was decided that at midnight, coincidentally Oscar I birthday and Father's Day in Karnia-Ruthenia, Ari I would officially reign over Pannonia, formally founding the new kingdom.

Internal affairs

Pannonia has a monarch as head of state and head of government, and an Assembly that may be convoked, to enact the law. It is also works as an autocracy, since the only citizens are the king and queen and the only foreigners able to vote are Karno-Ruthenians that live abroad. Pannonia was established as a monarchy headed by a reigning king of the House of Götzö-Thomaz-Rocha, that retained substantial political authority.

Foreign policy

In the absence of political or military power, Pannonia has sought to preserve its sovereignty through the proximity with Karnia-Ruthenia and the Brazilian sector. International cooperation and integration are therefore constants of Pannonian foreign policy, aimed at continuing to safeguard the country's sovereignty as recognized under international law.

On 13 September 2022, the government issued a first list of micronations recognized by the Pannonian government, eliminating the necessity of treaties of mutual recognition:

The first micronation that established diplomatic relations was Karnia-Ruthenia due its interests in its formation, and the first micronation to recognize Pannonia was Taslavia, on 16 September 2022, showing that the dynastic links were the higher diplomatic asset of Pannonian foreign affairs.

Military

The kingdom does not have any military, although Karnia-Ruthenia provided the occupation of Ameroslavia and the Provisional Government of the State of Slavs of America|State of Slavs of America under the command of the King and the army he commands, the Second Army, in case of need, and it relied mostly on the Brazilian police system (State of Piauí Military Police). In any case, the military presence was and after the foundation of Pannonia, still is de facto, only for cerimonial protection and defensive virtual warfare.

Economy

Pannonia is a micronationally small economy with a private-dominated market that adopted as official currency the Vereinsmark, used in the day-to-day official micronational business in the country as well as in trade with foreign investors from internationally recognized nations due to the real currency exchange rate and value pegged by a copper reserve using the copper standard. Furthermore, the Brazilian Real, even though not official, is widely accepted and used in Pannonia in day-to-day economic relations.

Geography

Surrounded by Floriano, Piauí, in Brazil, Pannonia is not far from the Brazilian state of Maranhão on the west and the United Provinces of Mauritia, or other regions of Karnia-Ruthenia as well. The Parnaíba River forms the boundary with Maranhão and lies almost entirely within the basin of the Parnaíba and its tributaries. Part of the state on the Atlantic coast and along the lower Parnaíba is low, swampy, and historically malarial. South of this the country rises gradually to a plateau with open campos, where most of Ruthenia is located.

Ecoregion

Parnaíba River, near Pannonia.

The sandy soils along the Atlantic coast are home to the restingas, low evergreen forests adapted to the nutrient-poor conditions and is also home to the Maranhão Babaçu forests, which extend westward into Maranhão. This ecoregion is dominated by stands of the Babaçu palm.

The eastern lands are dominated by the dry Caatingas shrublands, which extend across much of northeastern Brazil. The Cerrado savannas extend across the southwestern portion of the land, in the basins of the upper Parnaíba and Gurguéia rivers. Enclaves of Atlantic dry forests lie in basin of the Gurguéia and are the most present environment in Pannonia, forming a transition between the Cerrado and Caatinga. Serra da Capivara National Park, located not far from Pannonia and the northern lands of Ruthenia in the Caatinga, protects numerous caves with ancient cave paintings.

Climate

The climate is hot and humid, with high day-time temperatures and cool nights.
