Tigellêah, officially the Cynedôm Tigellêahan (Kingdom of Tigellêah), is a European micronation located on the Elmsworth Peninsula in the south of England. The country was founded in early 2021 and is a revival of a historical Jutish kingdom. The Kingdom speaks English, alongside the conlang Tigellêahisc, which is based off of Old English and Old French.

The Jutish Kingdom

The Kingdom is based on a revival of a historic Jutish kingdom of the area. The Jutish kingdom was Pagan, ruled by King Arwald I, however it was converted to Christianity in 661 by King Æthelwealh of Sussex. Tigellêah is not a direct continuation of the Jutish kingdom, however it does draw upon the Jutes heavily in its culture.

The Prangnell Brothers

The capital city of Feormehâmburh (sometimes anglicised as Feormehâmburgh) was founded in the late 1860s by the Prangnell Brothers, William, Henry and Alfred, as a brickyard. Although long abandoned, the coal-fired kilns can still be found in the settlement, and the clay deposits they used contribute significantly to the Tigellêahisc economy. The house they built on the site is now in the possession of His Majesty's Government, and the jetty they built also serves as Tigellêah's Sûðfaroðrîdende Port.

The Kingdom of Tigellêah

The Kingdom of Tigellêah was founded on the 11th February 2021 in order to provide an authority for a new settlement planned at Feormehâmburh.

Government and Politics

Politics

The Kingdom of Tigellêah is an absolute monarchy, with sole legislative power in the King. The King is supported by a Privy Council (Eaht Êargespecasan in Tigellêahisc), which consists of the Ealdorfrêas (roughly translated as earls). The Privy Council and the Ealdorfrêas hold a purely advisory role, and hold no legislative power on their own.

The citizens of the Kingdom hold the right to petition the Ealdorfrêas to present issues to the King. Ealdorfrêas are compelled to request the King addresses these concerns during a sitting of the Privy Council.

Law

All judicial power also comes from the King, however it is the Ealdorfrêas (acting on behalf of His Majesty) who conduct hearings and pass sentences. The sentences a court may impose are limited by an uncodified imperative, and a court may only fine or exile citizens found guilty of a crime.

All laws are created through the issuance of a Royal Decree, however the common-law based system allows for interpretation and precedent to be set by the courts.

Foreign Relations

The Kingdom of Tigellêah is open to relations with other micronations.

Economy

Currency

The Tigellêahisc Pening (₽) is a silver-standard currency. Only silver-coins minted by His Majesty's Treasury are legal tender within the Kingdom in order to ensure the purity of the coins and allow the Treasury to have more control over inflation. The value of the Pening fluctuates with the price of silver, however the exchange rate is currently (on average) around ₽1 = £0.60 GBP.

Brickyard

The new Tigellêahisc Brickyard does not make bricks for export, however it is a powerhouse of Tigellêahisc industry and is used to supply the building projects of the Kingdom. The soil in Tigellêah contains very high deposits of clay.

Farming

The Kingdom aims to be self-sufficient, and consequently His Majesty's Government is running an extensive farming program. The program hopes to cultivate numerous crops, and His Majesty's Government is also looking into the feasibility of small livestock. The goal of the farming program is to produce enough surplus food to allow for its export at farmers markets, bringing a new source of income for Tigellêah.

Leatherworks

The Tigellêahisc Leatherworks is a leathercraft facility within the Kingdom. Although currently only providing services within the nation, the Government aims to make the Leatherworks a viable exporter of products.

Culture

National Symbols

Flag of the Kingdom of Tigellêah

The flag of the Kingdom of Tigellêah is a yellow and red bicolour, based on the flag of the county of Hampshire, featuring a white cross in the centre, symbolising the Catholic heritage of the nation.

The axe and oak tree, which are attributes of the patron saint, St Boniface, are Royal symbols of the Kingdom. St Boniface is an important historical and religious figure of Tigellêah, and is a central figure in the symbolism of the nation.

Tigellêahisc language

The Tigellêahisc language is a conlang heavily based off of the Kentish dialect of Old English. Tigellêahisc is related to Grýttonic, through the mutual connection to Old English, however the languages are not mutually intelligible.

Religion and Spirituality

By tradition, Tigellêah is a Roman Catholic state. However, the majority of the population are agnostic/atheist, and the separation of Church and State in all legislative matters is an uncodified imperative.

Education and Literature

His Majesty's Government places a great emphasis on the importance of education. Tigellêahisc education is often broad and varied, with most citizens being at least partially educated in literature, the sciences, maths, history and philosophy. His Majesty's Government is also planning a campaign to translate a wide variety of literature into Tigellêahisc to stimulate the use of the language, and further add to the cultural output of Tigellêah.

Marine Heritage

Owing to its waterfront location, the Kingdom has a strong maritime heritage, and features several ports and harbours.

Architecture

The Kingdom place a strong focus on building and construction and the styles of building in Tigellêah are varied. Wooden huts and wattle and daub structures are often used for residential and retail purposes, as they are cheap and easy to build. However, many government (and some residential) buildings are constructed using the bricks made at the Tigellêahisc Brickyard. Owing to the two types of clay that can be found in Tigellêah, the brickyard can produce both red and yellow bricks, and His Majesty's Government is planning to greatly expand the capabilities of the brickyard as the nation develops.
