The Kingdom of West Alpinia, more commonly known as West Alpinia, is a micronation in Melbourne, Australia.

The country has been ruled by a constitutional monarchy since its founding in late 2020, with an Imperial Commissariat as the de facto government. It was part of the “Melbourne Three”, which was a group of three closely associated micronations. Of the three members, Alpinia’s two fellow micronations no longer exist, having dissolved this year.

Alpinia dérives its name from “Alpine”, typically used to describe mountainous, snowy regions. Alpinia is “Land of the alpine”, which is part of the motto, “Land of the Alpine and the Home of the Great”.

History

Alpinia was founded on the 16th of October, 2020. It started out as an absolute monarchy ruled by a king, but a series of reforms resulted in the first king, Erik I, being deposed and the micronation’s shift to a constitutional monarchy.

Politics and government

West Alpinia is run by a constitutional monarchy. The Imperial Commissariat, the state’s main governing body, passes the main legislations, however the king still has some authority in state affairs.

Law and order

West Alpinia has a small police force online, but not in real life. Alpinia is an extremely conservative country and is often considered authoritarian because of its policies.

Military

The main military force of the kingdom, the King’s Imperial Army (KIA) is rather small and made entirely of volunteers. They source equipment from replica websites. A sub-branch of the KIA, the Imperial Military Police (IMP, commonly referred to as “imps”) is the king’s personal detail and enforces discipline in the army.

It is open market, but not many citizens use the currency, the florin, due to its recent inflation and deflation rampage that tore apart the economy.
