The official language of Sancratosia is Lingua Franca Nova, also known colloquially as Elefen. In addition, English and French are recognized as national languages.

Official language

Lingua Franca Nova

The Constitution of Sancratosia determines that Lingua Franca Nova is the official language of the state. Lingua Franca Nova is an auxiliary language created by Cornelis George Boeree around 1998. Although not spoken by many people, even in Sancratosia, the language is designed to be understood by speakers of romance languages.

The common use of Lingua Franca Nova in Sancratosia is mostly done through the use of some colloquialisms such as the widespread use of the salutation "Saluta" (English: Greetings) and the parting "Sinsera" (English: Sincerely) or the less-used informal "Txau" (English: Hi or Bye). Social media publications done on the official accounts of the Principality and the Sovereign Princess will usually begin in Lingua Franca Nova and generally have at least an English translation.

Recognized languages

According to the Constitution, the usage of English is recognized alongside French.

English

The use of English is widespread in Sancratosia because of its status as a lingua franca. English is oftentimes the only language used alongside Lingua Franca Nova, mostly because of characters limitation on many platforms, even when it is considered of equal status to French.

Many media platforms also have English has primary language, like La Ganso Coronada, the main newspaper of Sancratosia.

Even with the official status of Lingua Franca Nova, English is prominently used by the government in Sancratosia. One such example of this is the use of English as the sole language on the official website of the Principality.

French

The Constitution of Sancratosia does not make a difference in the recognition of French and English. However, the use of French is very limited in Sancratosia. Nevertheless, the government will fulfill its obligations to answer in French when requested.

The use of French can been seen in certain areas, such as for the naming of the first commercial business, Chez Chloé.

Some official social media publications will be trilingual and French is generally posted last.

Promoted languages

On 8 June 2023 (2023-06-08), 3 languages became "promoted languages", which grants them a special legal status.

Gestuno

Gestuno is the only legalized sign language in Sancratosia. Before this regulation, Quebec Sign Language was often considered to be the de facto official sign language of the nation, mostly due to the lack of a signed version of Lingua Franca Nova.

Italian

Italian is the 3rd most used language by Sancratosians. It became a promoted language within Sancratosia after the publication of the 2022 Census.

Portuguese

Portuguese was made a promoted language because of Sancratosia's relations with some Brazilian micronations, its membership in Conference of Santiago and the personal interest of Princess Cloe in Portuguese. It is not widely spoken in Sancratosia.
