Leamsbury (pronounced Lems-bury) is a town of the Kingdom of Lytera and the home of the two last members of the Royal House of Bayliss. The town is the was the most northern part of Lytera until August 30, 2021. To the north of the town is the River Leam and just to the west the River Itchen joins the Leam. Due to its proximity to these two rivers, Leamsbury and its surrounding area have periodically suffered from flooding.

Etymology

Leamsbury is named after the nearby river, the River Leam. The burg comes the English influence of Lytera, and fits due to the location of the town, being fortified in it's location.

History

The area around Leamsbury was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Mortone. In the early Middle Ages it was a place of some importance, as it was the centre of a Hundred named Meretone. By the late 12th Century this had become part of the Hundred of Knightlow. Just north of Leamsbury is a medieval bridge over the Leam known as "Marton Bridge", which was built in 1414 by a locally born merchant called John Middleton. The nearby Grade II* listed Church, St Esprit, was the sight of the Marriage of Prince Robert to Princess Siobhan.

When Lytera found itself alone following the Great Ruislip War, it began to look towards its family members living outside Ruislip for support in staying active. In 2015, the Crown Dependency of Leamsbury, was founded, though its status was ambiguous until the Act of Annexation & Territory Status 2019, which officially gave it its status as a Crown Dependency. From 2014 until 2017, due to her dementia, High Regent Marion, Regent of Lytera resided here.

In 2020, it was the second of the Crown Dependencies to become a town as part of the Rising Sun Initiative's first Five Year plan. Due to it's low population, it was granted an exemption from the mandatory election laws due to family relations. Due to it's time of annexation, a few days before the vote for a potential new flag, it lacked a flag of it's own. Following the vote where the original flag won, the design of the Leamsbury flag was finalised, symbolising the River Leam and the green hills of the lands around it.
