In Baustralia, a Member of Parliament (MP) is an individual elected to serve in the House of Commons of the Parliament of Baustralia.

Electoral system

The prime minister originally was elected directly by the citizens where they fill ballots saying which prime minister they wish to elect. The votes are tallied per constituency, with the competitor voted by majority gaining the seat in parliament. The party leader with the most seats became the prime minister. On 19 June 2020, Parliament passed a motion to change the voting system to alternative voting. However, as there have only been two candidates, the first-past-the-post system is used.

Election

Elections take place on 20 June 2020 as per the Fixed Terms Election Act. However, in 2021, the election was moved a week after conservative leader Nick Sullivan dropped out. He was succeeded as party leader by Lady Ella Parker, a wing commander in His Royal Air Force, and sister of Lady Flavora.

Styles

According to the Titles and Styles Acts, MPs are accorded the prefix of The Honourable and the post-nominal MP. Exceptions to this are Prime Ministers, former and current, and current Leader of the Oppostion, are accorded the style of The Right Honourable Name MP.
