The Memeraeus Armed Forces (Greek: Μιμραϊκές Ένοπλες Δυνάμεις, IPA: /mim.r̠a.iˈc̠es̠ ˈe.no.ples̠ ðiˈna.mis̠/) were the combined ground, naval, air and space forces of the Empire of Memeraeus. They consisted of the Memerian State Defence General Staff, the Memeraeus Army, the Memeraeus Navy, the Memeraeus Air Force and the Memeraeus Aerospace Defence Force.
The civilian authority overseeing the Memeraeus Armed Forces was the Ministry of State Defence.
History
In spring of 2019, the founding fathers of the Micronation decided to established a series of units, in order to secure their newly claimed territory. After the peaceful transition of the state inside the University, it was deemed necessary to prepare for sanctions, since there is constant fear of action, not only from the University's side, but as well as from other Institutions.
It was the first time that the plan did not include further division according to the faculties, although de facto there still is a vivid representation. This was mainly done to secure the corps from another civil war.
After a brief discussion with the military leadership in the noon of the 13th of November 2019, it was decided that the anthem of the Armed Forces will be this of the National Republican Greek League (N.R.G.L. - ΕΔΕΣ in Greek).
General information
Conscription
Conscription was mandatory for every citizen of the Empire of Memeraeus, regardless of their age and gender. The duration was indefinite, which practically means that as long as an individual is a citizen, they are automatically filled in the ranks of the Armed Forces. Although it seems as an act of equality, it is actually a necessity to draft each and every member, since they can all be valuable for the cause of the Forces.
Budget
An indefinite quantity of Memerian Denars (👌) was available for the Armed Forces' operation, maintenance and supply.
Military personnel
Military personnel was estimated at approximately 750 for the second quarter of 2019.
International operations
The Empire of Memeraeus didn't take part in any international operations, as the microstate folded before becoming allies with other micronations.
Component forces and their organization
Memeraeus National Defence General Staff
The Memeraeus National Defence General Staff had the operational command of the Joint Armed Forces Headquarters and the units that operate under them. It was also responsible for organising and implementing routine operations and exercises of the Joint Armed Forces, coordinating and implementing operations during the management of wartime and peacetime crises and overseeing operations of the Memeraeus Armed Forces outside the Empire's national territory.
Memeraeus Army
The basic components of the Memeraeus Army were Arms and Corps. The former was responsible for combat missions and the latter for logistical support. It was organized in Commands, Formations, and Units with the main being brigade, division and corps. Its main mission was to guarantee the territorial integrity and independence of the country.
The Memeraeus Navy incorporated a modern fleet consisting of strike units, such as frigates, gunboats, submarines and fast attack guided missile vessels and multiple types of support vessels, in order to be able to conduct naval operations that protect the state's national interests and guarantee the integrity of Memeraeus territorial waters, the mainland and the islands that operated under Memerian rule.
Memeraeus Air Force
The Memeraeus Air Force incorporated a modern aircraft fleet and congruent structure, combined with a comprehensive air defence system that consisted of a widespread network of anti-aircraft weapons. The structure, which was overseen by the Air Force General Staff, included the Tactical Air Force Command, the Air Force Support Command, the Air Force Training Command and a number of other independent defence units and services. Its’ main mission was to defend Memerian airspace and to provide combat support to the Memeraeus Army and the Memeraeus Navy.
Memeraeus Aerospace Defence Force
Formerly a special unit of the M.A.F., the Memeraeus Aerospace Defence Force was designated for defending the space interests of the Empire. The force was never established, partially due to financial reasons, thus forcing the Empire to abstain from further work on it until it eventually folded.
