Millomism is a political ideology created in the Kingdom of Sorrenia that aims to introduce equal constituency boundaries, devolution and a general adjustment of political power away from the Durham-Tyne-Wear area in favour of the west and south. Millomism is antithetical to Pitmatic, a political ideology that encourages greater emphasis on the working class of the North East. It may also be seen as in conflict with certain forms of Northumbrianism.

Etymology

Millomism is named after the small town of Millom, found in southwest Cumbria. Millom was visited by several Sorrenian politicians who felt that too much political power was centred in the Durham-Tyne-Wear area. Once they returned home, they began to push for greater devolution of power and various other political changes. Eventually, the group became known as Millomists, after the town they had visited which sparked their upset at the status quo.

History

The Millomists began as a cross-party group of disaffected politicians. They each respectively began to pursue Millomist policies in their parties, with varying success.

In the NDLP and HNP, Millomism was positively received, with the latter adopting a Hortanian-focused form of Millomism into their party manifesto.

Millomism was received in some factions of The Republicans, especially in the branches in Hortania. Significant opposition was seen however from the Republican branches in the north-east, many of whom developed Pitmatic as a contrasting ideology.

Millomism was generally rejected by both the New Monarchists and the Christian Alliance. The former saw it as an attempt to sap power away from the monarchy and the traditional areas of Sorrenia. Some support for the Millomist policy of redrawn boundaries was seen in the Christian Alliance, however the ideological label was rejected.

Political parties

The only party to include Millomism in their platform is the Hortanian National Party. The party supports a complete redrawing of the electoral boundaries, including several additional constituencies within Hortania. The party also calls for a devolved assembly in the county and has expressed interest in a pan-regional movement to devolve power throughout Sorrenia.

Millomism has attracted support from within several regional branches of both The Republicans and the NDLP. Supporters of Millomism in both parties are generally students, and located outside the Durham-Tyne-Wear area, in cities such as Leeds. Millomism is not however accepted as part of the party platform in either the Republicans or the NDLP, and in the former, a significant reprisal has emerged in the form of the Pitmatic ideology.

Millomism has been rejected outright by the New Monarchists and the Christian Alliance, both of whom see it as an attack both on the monarchy and the traditional regions of Sorrenia. The latter however has supported calls for electoral reform.

Although the Lasgalen Revolutionary Front is primarily a separatist organisation, some within the party have supported abandoning independence if Millomism was successful, instead agitating for an Amon Lasgalen devolved assembly and greater cultural and religious autonomy.

Concepts

While Millomism is more homogeneous in thought than some other political ideologies in Sorrenia, there is still some internal difference, with regionalist parties often adopting a form centred upon their own region.

Millomists generally support:

 • Electoral Reform - a removal of the First-past-the-post electoral system in favour of a proportional voting method.
 • Constituency Redrawing - the creation of new constituencies in underrepresented areas such as Bradford, with the potential reduction of constituencies in overrepresented populations such as Newcastle.
 • Devolution - the creation of devolved assemblies in culturally distinct areas, with powers concerning taxation and social policy becoming devolved.
 • Cultural Autonomy - the devolution of cultural and religious decisions to local areas, with the removal of enforced cultural programs from the centre.

Some more radical Millomists also support:

 • Constitutional Reform - a removal of the current Sorrenian Constitution, with a new constitution including democratic provisions, greater limitations on the monarchy and the assurance of federalism.
 • State Secularism - the disbanding of the Papal Directorate and the removal of any references to state-sponsored Catholicism or Christianity more generally.
 • Independence Referanda - a referendum on independence in Amon Lasgalen and Dradelia to legitimise Sorrenian authority over the regions.
