The monarchy of Galte, colloquially the Galtean monarchy, officially The Crown refers to the institution of monarchy of the Principality of Galte. The current monarch, Michael I, created and ascended to the throne on 25 August 2020 as the King of Galte, succeeding the position of the President of the Republic of Galte. Since 28 November of the same year, Galte has been a principality wherein the monarch is referred to as Sovereign, Sovereign Prince, or Prince interchangably (Princess if applicable.)
History
The monarchy of Galte was established on 25 August 2020 succeeding the Presidency of the Republic of Galte at which point Galte was appropriately known as a kingdom. Later in the year as Galte is experiencing internal problems mainly due to a lack of capacity, King Michael decides that it is in the kingdom's interest to subject itself under another more capable nation (that is not the United States) whereupon Michael eventually came in contact with King Liam Alexander of the then Kingdom of Atiera. With reference to the fact that a king cannot subject himself to another king (traditionally, a king may be subject to an emperor) the kings agreed that Galte would be deelevated to the status of a principality whereover the Sovereign Prince will be the head of state subject to the Atieran king, who would be granted, for the sake of symbolic continuity, the nominal title of King of Galte.
Independent Galte
Upon Galte's secession from a deteriorating kingdom of Atiera in August 2021, Prince Michael decided against reelevating the principality and assuming the title of king for himself, instead choosing to become a self-governing principality. The secession occurred with recognition to the manner by which the union had occurred in the first place, and the so-called Galte Act, 2020 was duly repealed on 24 August 2021. The invalidation of the act, having been recognized by the government of Atiera (which resigned the following day) left also the royal title vacant. Pursuant to the dissolution of royal Atiera and subsequent establishment of the Empire of Atiera, Emperor Alexander thereof has effectively completely dismissed the title.
Regent of Galte
The Regent of Galte or simply the regent is the office of the head of state of the Principality of Galte in absence of the monarch. The governing period of a regent is called a regency. The provisions of regency is constituted in chapter 4. and article 13. in the Constitution of Galte, sections 3–7. A regent is regarded as exercising the sovereignty of the crown, however may not be regarded as the holder of the crown.
Powers and responsibilities
Among the constitutionally entrenched responsibilities which fall under the purview of The Crown are:
- The ability to issue decrees.
- The ability to appoint the Cabinet of Ministers.
- To sanction and promulgate laws.
- To be the fount of honour of all titles, styles and honours.
- The ability to initiate and dissolve a Regency.
